Re: C-Section Moms, I need the good, the bad and the ugly...
I had an unplanned C Section. May have been good, I didn't have time to get too anxious. The surgery seemed to go very quickly. After DS and DH went to the nursery, the nurse and Dr. told me I fell asleep a bit, while the were closing me up. I was closed up with staples. In recovery for 1 hour. They brought me to my room and I'll say was still "Groggy". Next AM woke up felt better. Sore. The one thing the nurses and dr. encouraged was walking. Definitley get up and out of bed as soon as your up to it. Even if its just walking to the chair and sitting. I used to walk DS in his little "Bassinet" all around the maternity floor. When I got home, I was still a bit sore. Just take your time with stairs and getting off and on the couch and into bed. My first night back home, sleeping in my own bed wasn't so pleasant. I could NOT find a comfy position at all. I WANTED the hospital bed back...LOL. As the days go on, it gets easier and easier. My dr. was FANTASTIC! Like I said..Walk around as much as you can!!! Best of Luck.

ok- here's the good- your hoo-ha stays intact! ha ha. the bad- the recovery can be painful. the ugly- the first 2 days in the hospital after the birth... lots of vaginal bleeding, catheters, and numerous people looking 'down there'.
I think you covered it all. Recovery is pretty bad and takes a while to really feel like yourself. You will have really painful gas first day or two after surgery. First 2-3 weeks are veeery painful (at least it was for me, Motrin didn't do much and I couldn't take anything else bc I was breast feeding) . After that pain is not as bad but still there for another few weeks or maybe even months. It took me almost a year(9-10mos) to feel like I was finally 99.9 better. This is JMO but if I could do it all over and didn't have health problems, I would NEVER do the C/S again. Sorry I am not trying to scare you , just being honest and this is just my personal experience, everyone is different. As many already mentioned , try to walk around as much as you can and as soon as you can after the surgery,it will be very painful but it's the best thing to do if you want to recover soon. Best of luck to you P.S. This is very important , when the nurses give you stool softener or laxetive(whatever it is) take it and try to go while at the hospital (sorry I know this is gross and TMI).

Honestly, I didn't think it was that bad. Yes, there is a lot of bleeding afterwards and I had a minor complication (couldn't pee), so they had to re-insert the catheter for another day. Get up and walk around. Being home, I felt a lot better and by 6 weeks I was pretty much back to normal.

Re: C-Section Moms, I need the good, the bad and the ugly...
Jenn, for me the best part about the csection was thinking I was going to be "prepared". For some reason a normal birth and "not knowing" what to expect was what scared me the most. After going through the csection and evaluating my decision, I came to the conclusion that childbirth is painful no matter which way you look at it. Whether you go through pain in the delivery room or post op you're gonna be in pain anyway...lol
OK, here is my honest experience no holds barred...The easiest part for me was the spinal. My anesthesiologist must've known what he was doing. It was virtually painless, with one little sting and a little pressure. It felt a little "bizarre" to experience your lower bottom going numb but I felt no pain during the surgery. What I felt was some tugging, pulling and at the very end when they actually take the baby out there's this enormous pressure put on your belly, like someone just put an enormous rock on top of you. I felt very uneasy about that part and a little scared, it made it hard for me to breathe for a few minutes. Then all of a sudden the "rock" gets pulled out from the top of you and you feel like they just freed you from a ton of rubbles. I felt 40 lbs. lighter that instant I swear. Then I heard him cry and this overwhelming emotion comes over you, you just can't believe you agve birth to a baby! They take him and clean him and I helplessly watched him cry and all I wanted to do was see him and hold him. They took him to get weighed and everything and you're just laying there, it S U C K S so bad!!!! Then after what it felt like 15 mimutes my husband brought him to see me but I didn't get to hold him until I got to the recovery room. You just lay there waiting for them to close you. The waiting is torture.
The post op is def. the worst. The first 3 days for me were the hardest. Your stomach is numb (mine still is on the bottom after almost 2 weeks) You can't do anything for yourself. It hurts like hell. The medication makes you sleepy. I did not like the day nurses at my hospital and I wanted to go home so bad! I left my hospital on day 3 but now I wish I would've stayed a little longer. It was a rude awakening when I got home!!!! lol
Oh and I absolutely hated the fact that they would not let me eat all day the day of the csection. I was freaking starving, Thank goodness I had brought some peppermint candies with me, I ate the whole damn bag I was so hungry. The night nurse must've felt so bad for me I almost cried begging for at least a piece of toast. She was a saint and let me eat whateversnacks they had! I scarfed down popcorn, pretzels, graham crackers, jello, 2 cheese sandwiches and some apple juice. Boy I could've kissed that nurse!!! lol
Oh....another thign I despised was putting that folie catheder on. I was dreading the whole thing, and it was SOOOO umcomfortable, but once you're numb from the anesthesia you won't feel a darn thing. I actually did not want ot take it ou the 2nd day because I ddin't wanna get up to pee. lol
Well good luck tomorrow. I won't lie and say it's going to be a pic nic but you're little darling will be SO worth it!!!!
XOXOXO BOTB
