I switched from Cablevision to FIOS for cable, internet and phone and it is great! I save around $40 a month. But make sure its in your area first. It is not offered to everyone yet.

Re: Cablevision vs. Verizon
We just got the Verizon FIOS phone and internet, so far it's great. We went with cablevision for TV service since FIOS tv isnt avilable in our area yet.
ETA: We used to have triple play from Cablevision. We didnt really have any problems with it.

Re: Cablevision vs. Verizon
FYI, to check if it's available for you, here's Verizon's website to check. Put in your phone number in the center box, and it will tell you if it's in your area.

Re: Cablevision vs. Verizon
I've had both and currently have FIOS. I love it!
Cablevision's "triple play" is a promo. Your rates will go up slowly over a two year period. Verizon is a set rate, no gimmicks, etc. Plus, you get extras for free such as on demand and widgets, which give you quick little traffic and weather updates for your town.

Re: Cablevision vs. Verizon
I've had Cablevision for all three for about 2 years now. I have to say that Cablevision is very responsive in helping me trouble shoot things and came to the house the other day and swapped out my modem which wasn't quite working right.
I don't know much about Verizon but I tend to wait to see how the service is for others before I jump.
The rates for everything go up after the promo period. I now spend close to $180 for all three but I have some additional parts of my cable package. But I was able to negotiate with them when my renewal came up.

Re: Cablevision vs. Verizon
we have cablevision right now and personally i find that every month there is an error on my billing statement. i have to call EVERY month and i even told them, i cant wait until fios comes to our neighborhood. it is just silly.
we have the triple play which is good for the money but we are hoping that verizon offers competitive pricing!

Re: Cablevision vs. Verizon
I have cablevision triple play and I hate the phone service. When I signed up in July the international plan was $14.99 for 800 minutes. Now it's $14.99 for every 60 minutes. I use that on one call! Every time I use it, I either have static or an echo.
I can't wait until Verizon comes to our area.

Re: Cablevision vs. Verizon
We have the optimum triple play and have had no major problems and if something minor does happen, I call the 800# and they fix it right then and there.
I would recommend it.

I agree, we've had optimum triple play for about 1 1/2 years now...no issues so far. We also have a landline though, b/c our alarm co. wanted a land line when they installed it.

Yes. FCC Regulations.
my dad just switched over from cable to verizon and they said they weren't able to keep the number. it almost detered him but he did it anyway. he's had that number for years. i stayed with cable because when i called them they gave me 40 off my monthly bill for staying with them!!!

same here. we now pay about 160-180/month for all 3, but we have every channel under the sun and the dvr service through them etc and we have never had a problem with anything. we'll probably stick with cablevision at least until we move in another 2 years or so... if verizon is still going strong, we'll decide then what we want to do. but we haven't had a problem, and i'm a fan of if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

From the FCC site:
Under the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) “local number portability” (LNP) rules, you can switch telephone service providers within the same geographic area and keep your existing phone number. However, if you are moving from one geographic area to another, you may not be able to take your number with you. In addition to switching from one wireless company to another, in most cases, you will be able to switch from a wireline company to a wireless company, or from a wireless company to a wireline company, and still keep your phone number.
Of course I don't know if there are any specific exception's that your father fell under.

Re: Cablevision vs. Verizon
I switched last summer to Verizon FIOS. LOVE IT!
I save almost $75 a month from when I had Verizon phone & cable internet & TV!
I get one bill for phone, internet, TV & cell phone. Not counting the cell phone, I spend around $170 a month.
We have HBO & Cinemax, 1 DVR box, 2 regular boxes & on demand so I did not feel the need to get more upgraded movie channels.
There's ALWASYS something on to watch!
