camp for special needs
I have been looking for camps. He cant go to regular camp because he needs the support( DX: ADHD, mood disorder) He is definitely more difficult compared to regular campers. I cant seem to find a camp that handles with care ADHD kids. Any recommendations? He also does not like sports. and if he does do sports, I cant have him in compatible sports. This is the first year he wont be doing the summer program at school.

Re: camp for special needs
We have never been, but check out
http://www.campkehilla.org/
Also, West Hills Day Camp in Huntington has a camp for special needs.

What town do you live in? Are you looking for full day camp while you work, or just something to do?

Re: camp for special needs
I worry about this too. My dd has ADHD and sensory issues. She is in 1st grade. Last year she did the summer program through Sachem and it was great. She will thankfully get to use it again this year. But next year she is being recommended for the 15:1 so she will not be able to go next summer unless I push it because I really feel without her PT. OT and speech therapy she will regress. I'm in Holbrook so I'm hoping they have a camp that can deal with her issues next year.

Re: camp for special needs
im not sure where you live, but Samuel Fields Y (JCC) has many different programs for kids with special needs.
They have multiple locations in eastern queens and western nassau i believe.

Buckley Day Camp in Roslyn. They are great accommodating special needs. My son went there the last 3 summers and had a 1:1. You can call to speak to the inclusion coordinator to answer any questions. They even have a "chill out" room. Or feel free to message me. My husband also works at the camp as a counselor.

Re: camp for special needs
Almost every JCC has programming for the summer for kids with special needs.
Not sports-based - check Sam Field Y Academic Summer Enrichment. Inclusive programming that does arts as well as experiential learning. I oversaw those programs when I worked there and they are fantastic.

Re: camp for special needs
Yes I was going to say Crestwood has a program geared toward children with special needs... a friend of mine works there and can put you in touch with the appropriate person for that program if you'd like- if so FM me your information.

If you are in the town of oyster bay look into the gap program. You need and IEP. Your district even provides transportation. You do need to contact them soon. It's a great program.
