Can Any NYC Teachers Answer a Question For Me Re: Our Insurance Plan and Fertility Prescriptions?

Im a city teacher so like anyone whos reading this (if youre a city teacher too) you know our insurance plan.

Back years ago when I had my DD I used Krupners for everything. I was told that they no longer cover fertility injectables and we now have to use Freedom, correct?

So here is my real question:

My RE's nurse just called and left a message that all my meds were called in(shes the one who said I use Freedom). Then I got a call from KRUPNERS saying my PIO was called in to them and they dont cover it(which I knew) and they said that nobody does. Is this true? Freedom does not cover PIO either? I mean not a huge deal, they said its $40 a bottle but again I was told she was calling Freedom. They closed now so I cant talk to them until tomorrow.

Anyone?

Thanks

PS. This is for a FET so PIO is the only injectible I need for this cycle.

ETA: I just called a pharmacy in Stony Brook that has fertility meds and would you believe that the pharmacist told me that they take our insurance? For anyone that lives local, did you know this? And if so-- why would everybody be using mail-order?

I don't know anything about NYC insurance but I feel horrible that even the smallest things are getting messed up for you.

Our insurance is great compared. I don't think I had a problem getting Pio from Freedom,...and I'm pretty sure it was covered

Try buying it from Walgreens. I bought 2 bottles for $55 with the yearly prescription plan which costs $20.

http://www.walgreens.com/pharmacy/psc/psc_overview_page.jsp

Its a prescription savings club and I get a lot of my meds there cause its cheaper. The plan for an individual is $20 and you can sign up and use the savings immediately.

I called UFT welfare fund and they said I had to go through GHI for injectables and that it's Curascript that I would need the meds from?
Kraupners I had to pay out of pocket.

Yes you need to use your PICA coverage...which is a whole other insurance card. Call the Medco number...they are helpful.

I just called Express Scripts and got my PICA ID numbers and they said they'd mail me a card. I asked why I've never gotten a PICA card and they said I should've. In my 13 years reaching I never had this card, did you. She also said we go through Curascript.

I have ordered Gonal and trigger from Freedom and they cover the meds. Maybe something changed this month? I have never received a PICA card. When you talk to Freedom for the first time they will take your GHI info and Medco info and figure it out from there. The card is not really needed if you go through Freedom.

I don't get why the DOE or Medco or GHI or whoever is responsible makes it so complicated!! I'm fighting with GHI over getting my ovidrel reimbursed. Anyone have luck with that?

That is strange, I am wondering if something changed... I was seeing my RE in Summer/Fall 2011 and I would always order my HCG and Crinone through Freedom and they always put it through GHI (not my RX plan) and I had to pay a co pay only...

Not a teacher... but I got almost everything from Kraupner all my cycles (i was on lovenox & neupogen).. prior to my IVF cycle... For some reason they made me go through Freedom. I didnt have any issues and i hate Kraupners with a passion... they never delivered to me before 11pm...
