CAn anyone help me with how to go about starting solid foods??
We went for DS's 6 month well visit and the ped said to start him on cereal....I am a neurotic freak who needs everything spelled out for her so anyone want to tell me how they went about starting solids???? You start with once a day, then every few days move to a new food....how do you know when to increase the feedings to more than once a day??? How do you know how much to feed them??? Is this one of those "you'll just know" type things????? Thanks so much!!!

i would start with one cereal (usually rice) and give 1-2 teaspoons once a day for 3 days before moving on to the next cereal. if you do a search on here you'll see many different options/schedules etc. i think it depends on your ped's office recommendations and how your child takes to it.

We started with rice cereal once a day when DS was about 4 months and then moved up to twice a day. Just make it watery the first few times, the biggest hurdle is getting them used to a spoon in their mouth. After that, it gets easier and you can start making the cereal a little thicker.

i like the gerber rubbery spoons.
as far as feeding goes, we started on oatmeal cereal, then rice, then multigrain. it's good to try each food for 3 days to ensure that there is no allergy. i would start with once a day, in the morning so you will notice if an allergy develops during the day.
after cereals i added avodaco, banana, and sweet potato .
then butternut squash, apple, pear, spinach, plum, apricot, peach, mango, blueberry, carrots... i think that's it so far. i make my own food, so i buy whatever fruit looks good at the supermarket that is allowed for ds' age (7 months). i use www.wholesomebabyfood.com as a guide.
i plan to start meats this weekend, as soon as i get the chance to make them.
