Can I vent about something that happened last night?
So, last night we had dinner at the diner. As we were eating, we kept hearing a child scream and scream, and quite honestly, I didn't care. I am immune to screaming at this point. So, I hear the mom pleading with the child to "be good". Whatever. So, I get up to take Ava to the bathroom, and on our way back, the mom has the little girl, who was about Ava's age, walking around with her and she walks the girl up to us and points at Ava and says to her dd, "Why can't you be good that that little girl?!" I was really pizzed. First of all, don't approach my child, second of all, that's not right to do to your kid. So, as we're eating, this woman proceeds to walk by our booth over and over with her little girl saying loudly, "See? See that little girl? She's being good! Why can't you be like that?!" Over, and over. It was really getting annoying, so much so that Ava was asking us why she kept walking by. Ug, that was so annoying. Not for nothing, we work HARD to get Ava to be polite and well-behaved in a restaurant, and I don't appreciate the running commentary. Ugg. Sorry, it was just so annoying and the mom was being so snotty to her little kid.

I don't like that kind of thing either. I find it demeaning. Young children deserve respect as well.
Exactly, and even JT, who will defend anyone, was so annoyed for the poor little girl. Not for nothign, but at that point, just leave. If you spend half your meal getting your kid to stop screaming and the other half parading her around the room and demeaning her, I think it's time to head home instead.

That's not a way to get your child to behave. It's a way to get her to lash out at the child behaving.
I also don't like the term "good". Children aren't intrinsically good or bad.
