Re: Can you drive a stick shift?
My boyfriend in college tried to teach me and it didn't go too well. I had a real issue getting into first- I kept stalling. It was that whole finesse of gas and clutch- it was so touchy, if you didn't do it JUST right you'd stall
Once I was out of first, I was pretty good, but the getting started was not working out for me.
We gave up on it. LOL Thank God for modern technology

Re: Can you drive a stick shift?
Yes. My last three cars I have had have been manual and it’s what I have been driving for 20 years.
I am extremely bored when I use my parents’ automatic cars when I go home to visit.

Can you drive a stick shift?
Nope. I tried once in my early 20s as I was going to get a free awesome truck but I couldn't do it. I had my boyfriend try to each me but the last straw was when I got stuck at a light turning onto the service road of the LIE and I could not get it into first. I got so rattled I just got out and left the car lol. My boyfriend wasn't too happy with me lol.

Re: Can you drive a stick shift?
Yes. I learned on an old Ford F250 and an older Ford dump truck at the County Park where I worked as a teenager. I had to hug the steering wheel to get the clutch down far enough, and the throws between gears was enormous. First gear often didn't work in the dump truck, so I learned how to start in 2nd. I also learned how to shift without the clutch in both vehicles, and I used that in the Honda Civic I owned for a while. I don't have a manual now, but I've driven one every once in a while, so I know I can still drive them.

Nope. My husband can drive stick shift. All his cars were actually stick shift mustangs until he started getting pick up trucks over the last few years

Can you drive a stick shift?
Yes. One because I was told what if someone is drunk and you need to drive their car. 2 because why not. So much more fun to drive in my opinion
And before people say- well if they are drunk then just take an Uber. We barely had cans in town when I was growing up and there was def no ubers.

Re: Can you drive a stick shift?
I learned how to drive with a stick shift car and it was not easy! I then started driving automatic and it was a joke! Many years later...I wouldn’t dare to drive stick shift again!

Yes I know how. My mom made me learn in case I ever “needed” to. lol

I don’t drive stick but this made me laugh because my dad taught me how to change a tire and fill up my car with gas and how to check the oil before I was allowed to take the car keys. And he made me change the tire in front of him!!! This was years ago. Needless to say I’ve never changed a tire since but he always tell me, you know how. Lol.

Yes, I can drive a stick. We travel to Europe often and they have a lot of manual cars so I'm glad I learned a long time ago.
My husband, while my girls were learning to drive, also made them learn to change a tire, gas up, check the oil, basic things. He always wanted them to be self sufficient in case it was needed. But yes, we do pay for roadside assistance for them

Re: Can you drive a stick shift?
Yes!
I impulse purchased a car I just had to have. I mean, its a miracle I survived my 20's because I have done some really f'n stupid things. This being one of them. It was a highly sensitive sports car. I couldn't drive it. Had to have it towed numerous times. Finally, someone had an old school stick shift and taught me on their car and I got it. I miss that car! Wouldn't fit my 3 car seats though LOL

My situation, too, minus the towing, lol. I loved that car.

Can you drive a stick shift?
Yes! My old boyfriend taught me on his VW Fox. My first car after that was a manual Datsun 200SX and I drove that for 3 years. I've driven manual cars over the years since and it always comes back to me.

Re: Can you drive a stick shift?
Sure do! Taught myself way back when my ex-fiance decided to cheat on me and would take my car and leave me his which was stick shift so there was no chance of me catching him cause I couldnt drive the car - Imagine the look on his face when I drove right up to him and her in his truck!

I really wish that most people knew. Even if they don’t plan on driving one, just as a common courtesy to those that do. I remember driving on LI with manual and people get so close to your bumper and you need a little bit of extra space in case of an incline. They do have better rollback technology now, though.
Oh and the a$$holes who beep right away at a green light in LI. You need a few extra seconds to start at green lights. Luckily here that isn’t a problem because the traffic lights go from red to yellow to green to allow those extra few seconds.
ETA: Licenses are separated here between automatic and manual. There are more limitations if you have an automatic license.
