Sure do! Taught myself way back when my ex-fiance decided to cheat on me and would take my car and leave me his which was stick shift so there was no chance of me catching him cause I couldnt drive the car - Imagine the look on his face when I drove right up to him and her in his truck!

A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!

Best response ever!!! Love it!!

No never had the opportunity to learn.
I’m surprised so many people can!

I really wish that most people knew. Even if they don’t plan on driving one, just as a common courtesy to those that do. I remember driving on LI with manual and people get so close to your bumper and you need a little bit of extra space in case of an incline. They do have better rollback technology now, though.

Oh and the a$$holes who beep right away at a green light in LI. You need a few extra seconds to start at green lights. Luckily here that isn’t a problem because the traffic lights go from red to yellow to green to allow those extra few seconds.

ETA: Licenses are separated here between automatic and manual. There are more limitations if you have an automatic license.

I think from having my husband have a few cars with stick I am more aware now of others.
He learned in the army and many years later decided to get a brand new truck with stick as it was cheaper. Well for the first week or so, I was not allowed to talk or have the radio on so he could hear the gears (I think that is correct lol).
His last car was stick and when he went looking for his most recent one he said no way he will stay with automatic lol.
I honestly don’t like driving other people’s cars so I haven’t even driven this new(er) car lol. No excuse either though as it is not stick lol.

Ah, I see what you mean about hearing the revs when switching gears. I get that concept and the person that taught me also taught me that. That went out the window when I got my car as I need to listen to music when driving, although lately that has changed because I am having gearbox problems with my new clutch.

I usually use rev matching when changing gears by watching my tachometer. I think that’s a better indicator, IMO, but I’m also driving an almost 20 year car.

But good for being aware of others. I really learned to drive manual stuck on the Seaford Oyster Bay (of all places) in an ice storm in traffic.

If you put an automatic in D1 or D2, you can get the same feeling of how manual is better at control.

Yup I can always tell a stick shift and will stay back.
I have no interest in learning so just hubby and my mom know how.

Well if you ever an interest, try to learn on an older car. There is a difference with older style clutches. It really is a useful skill to have. Well, it was useful in my experience. The older ones are more difficult.

I wish my mom knew how to drive a manual after I got stuck on a wind-y road in the Alps, but that’s another story. Switchbacks are a ***** in general.

Yeah maybe some day lol. Right now we all have automatics in my house. Hubby just got his car 8 months ago so he should be good for awhile. My lease is up this year.
