Re: Can you drive stick?

Yep. Chat Icon I'd prefer a stick but being stuck in traffic all the time on LI it makes no sense to have a stickChat Icon

I drove manual transmission cars for 13 years. So yes, I am pretty darn good at it. Chat Icon

Re: Can you drive stick?

I tried to learn a few years ago. I know how to do it "in theory" but I kept dropping the clutch too fast and stalling out.

Yes my x-boy friend taught me.. in a parking lot and I totally don't remember what kind of car he had.

Mine too - he had a Volkswagon Fox.

My first car was a stick shift and I've been driving automatic since I got rid of my Datsun 200SX.

But I can still drive a stick shift if I had too - just did last year after not having driven one for almost 8 years!

I can drive stick with a left or right side driver. I learned on a new car I bought when I was 18. It was abit scary buying a car not knowing if I would ever be able to drive it but after a few hours I was ready for the road.

Me too! I don't know why I was so insistant on it - but my first car had to be stick! My dad wanted to drive it home for me, but I said no way! Within 2 hours I was great.

I just got my first automatic, I'm getting a little used to it, but DH still has manual and it's like riding a bicycle - you never forget. I do like the control a manual transmission gives you - it's annoying to wait for an automatic to shift when you are merging onto a highway. My car has an option to make it manual, I should use it more now that I think of it.

Re: Can you drive stick?

nope... my dad AND dh both have tried to teach me... but i don't really want to learn Chat Icon i feel like theres enough for me to worry about on the road- i don't need to worry about shifting, too!
i really should learn, though because DHs car is stick, and if he ever got sick or something when we were out in his car and couldn't drive, we'd be screwed Chat Icon

Re: Can you drive stick?

awwwwwww stick! Chat Icon

I learned when one of my boyfriend's wrecked his Nissan 240 and took my car. I was left with his to drive on a VERY hilly road. Even in my automatic I'd roll back at stop lights!!!

I learned quickly and within a week I was good to go. I won't win races or anything, but I can get us there.

I'll prolly spin out too, cuz id rather do that then grind gears or ride the clutch.

ETA: Man, I need to get back into a Stick, it's been over 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Can you drive stick?

yup. My last car was 5 speed, and Al's car still is. I prefer driving a stick shift, except when I'm stuck in traffic.

Re: Can you drive stick?

yup- my dad forced me to learn a stick when I learned how to drive---that's what i learned to drive on. he said it was something that everyone should know... he was right- I've actually driven other peoples cars and some of them had stick shifts...

Re: Can you drive stick?

yes- first car I bought was a stick bc it was cheaper.

It is more a driving experience. I would never buy a fast car in an automatic.

Re: Can you drive stick?

Yes. I have owned many cars with stick and I now own my 66 Beetle with a 4 speed transmission.

For my daily driver I prefer an automatic, especially since I always get stuck in traffic.

Nope. I was taught by my college boyfriend, but I never picked it up well enough to be confident to ever drive manual myself.
