Re: Can you drive stick?

Yes. I learned on a 15-20 year old dump truck. I had to hug the steering wheel because the pedals were so far away. 1st gear didn't work too well, so I usually had to start in 2nd. The throws were very long between gears. It was a work truck, and one time I got nervous and popped the clutch just outside the office. The truck started bucking until I pressed the clutch back in.... Chat Icon

I've driven several sticks since then. After 1st gear, I can shift without the clutch, too.

I have autos now because DW can't drive stick, and we need to alternate vehicles once in a while.

Tried to learn once, didn't work, gave up. No, I cannot drive stick. Well, not the stick of a car anyway. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Can you drive stick?

I tried a couple of times on my dad's truck and both of us were pleasantly surprised by how well I did! Of course, I didn't have the nerve to leave the parking lot Chat Icon but nonetheless, I did itChat Icon

Re: Can you drive stick?

I tried a few times, but since no one in my fam has one, I never really learned, but as long as people didn't mind me stalling every so often in an emergency to drive home, I could do it.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Can you drive stick?

nope, I definitely need to learn. I was so mad at DH when he bought a new car about a week before our wedding, and bought a stinkin' 2 door manual. Great, we're about to get married and he buys a car only HE can use incase of emergencies.Chat Icon Not to mention no room to grow!!! Chat Icon

Yup, actually prefer it over automatic.

Re: Can you drive stick?

my boyfriend in HS tried to teach me on a Jeep- I think my Dad bought him a clutch -

and once on DH mustang- but that is too much pressure and the clutch isn't normal

it stinks- b/c I am limted to only being able to drive my car- while he can drive either

but I can't do it- don't want to -

Re: Can you drive stick?

It's the only way to drive IMO. I get bored when I drive automatic.

I don't drive down here (too afraid lol), but I can say automatics are what most people drive, even though it is overseas. I have trouble concentrating driving on the other side of the road in an automatic there is no way I could do manual here. I just use public transport. Better for the environment anyway.
