Can you put put up a mantel without having a fireplace?
Would this look dumb? Does anyone have a pic ? I know it CAN be done,but do people actually do this? It would be on a brick wall.
ETA: Hmmm I'm realizing now that I guess it would just basically be a big shelf and that sounds do-able. In that case show me picks of your large single shelves please

You can do it, lots of people here in the UK do it. I don't think it looks particularly nice, but its quite common here.

Ok I found what I like, what do you think? I'd get the 48 " shelf in black to against a white brick wall. Image Attachment(s):
