Can you start finger foods if your baby has no teeth?
My DD will be 9 months tomorrow and we will be going to the DR.
The last time I was there she told me I can start finger foods at 9 months. That scares me though.
If you did start finger foods, what did yiou giv your baby?
Thanks

Re: Can you start finger foods if your babay has no teeth?
Yes - they use their gums to mash up the food. Have you tried cheerios or puffs yet?

Absolutely! Their gums are hard enough for them to mash soft foods.
I've always started with: bananas mashed or cubed avodado (very ripe) cheerios small bits of cheese

Finger foods are pretty much anything babies can pick up with their fingers

Re: Can you start finger foods if your baby has no teeth?
Absolutely. My DD had NO teeth until she turned one. By 6 months she was eating all kinds of table foods.............puffs, pancakes, scrambled eggs, pasta, shredded chicken, meatballs, meatloaf, etc. Their "gumming" is as strong as actual chewing and since they aren't eating anything they needs to be torn and broken down, like steak, they don't need teeth to eat a variety of table foods.

Re: Can you start finger foods if your baby has no teeth?
Definitely, like everyone else said, they use their gums.
I had to explain it to my MIL because she asked me the same thing when she saw me feeding DS table foods. He didn't get any teeth until he was 13 or 14 months. It's not like the 1 or 2 front teeth they get will really help them chew-they might not get molars until they are 2 and you can't really wait until then to move to table foods.

Definitely my DS did not get his 1st tooth until he was 13 months old. He was eating chicken and steak long before then
