What about the kiddopatomus posh pouch that goes over top of the car seat?
You mentioned to use blankets but my friend said she used a blanket and when she went to take the baby out of the car the baby pulled the blanket up over his face! (which sounds dangerous.lol)

Re: Car Safety Seat Inspection- get rid of it all!
Chris - I have a question as well.
The following is from the BRU website:
In line with JJ Cole's commitment to child safety, the Original Bundle Me has been tested to FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard) 213 requirements. Tests performed on infant car seats with the JJ Cole Original Bundle Me installed found that the car seats complied with the Restraint System Integrity and Occupant Excursion portions of the FMVSS 213 requirements.
Does this mean that the new Bundle Me is ok to use now?

Re: Car Safety Seat Inspection- get rid of it all!
Typing error - there is a Bunldeme that goes over the top of the seat, almost like a cover. That is the one I was refering to. Not the one that most parents buy that is like a sleeping bag and zippers up.
Thanks for your kind words also. I am glad only one person misread the tone and the original poster understood.
This is what we have (it came with the car seat) Image Attachment(s):

Interesting that you would ask a question of the safety program going overboard based on safety facts and maunufacturers and federal guidelines rather than question these after market product manufaturers trying to make money off of parents for needless and sometimes dangerours items.
Mats have proven to interfere with the proper installation of seats, often times preventing the seats from acting the way they are designed. When car seat makers test their seats to work properly meeting federal guidelines they are tested with direct contact with the automobile seat - no mats or pads underneath.
Mirrors have been shown to detach and become projectiles in autoimobiles as well there has been proven cases of distracted driving and blind spots caused by mirror placement.
The bundleme has been shown to place padding between the child and the seat where there should be none. It also had been proven to misalign the harness straps from proper placement on the child.
All of these products go untested to any standards and as a result should not be used. There are no Federal guidelines with regard to these products and they cannot claim to meet car seat standards as they are reserved for car seats alone.
Are the car seat inspections going overboard or are they trying to fight consumer trends that can cause injuries?
90% of all car seats are installed wrong? Always better to err on the side of caution when dealing with our precious cargo.
um WOW. seriously?? I find it interesting that you would be sarcastic to a first time mother who was honestly asking other people's opinions on some information she received during the day. You say she should question the manufacturers but what about you?
what are your certifications? Where is your evidence that the bundleme's misalign harnesses, other than "it's been shown". well, it's been shown by who? where are your statistics? where is your evidence?
she shouldn't listen to manufacturer's but she should listen to you, no questions asked? I am sure you're right and you have some evidence/facts to back up your previous assertions, but to treat someone who is honestly asking for a second opinion like a piece of garbage makes me sick.
wow. just wow.
i'm sorry, but that just really made me mad. i'm a first time mother as well and i would have done the same thing. i would have asked other people's opinions. checked my facts. made sure that the information that was given to me was correct. Wannabemomma, you were 100% right to come on here and ask other opinions. Don't let anyone make you feel badly because of it, especially someone whose JOB it is to HELP you.
As a mom of 2 (3 yrs and 16 months) I can vouch for Carseatsafety - it is someone with about 20 years experience in car seat safety - this person speaks to parents about car seat safety, volunteers their time to check car seats. I understand where the OP and a new mom on there would be cautious but I can tell you that this person installed all of our seats and many parents that I know in my area. The advice is meant to help those new moms who don't know - and not to lecture. Hey I used the bundleme the 1st year b.c I didn't know better.
No one has to take the advice given but I know I trust Carseatsafety's advice over other moms or stores who don't have the experience in this area.

One thing I need clarification on Chris...you originally said no bundle me....but someone asked what to do in the winter and you said to dress the child warmly and use blankets or bundle me. Am I returning the bundle me or keeping it? TIA!
That is a great question! I would return the bundleme - there are several other options you can do.
There is a device like the bundle me - but instead of going into the seat - it goes over the seat and you zip it up and their heads are showing. I used that and a blanket for my DD#2 when she was smaller.
Columbia, LL Bean and several other companies (I used Lands End and would recommend them but I don't think they make them this year) - makes this type of coat/bunting. It is fleece NON puffy so it doesn't have an issue with the straps - and has fold over hands and feet to keep them toasty.

No, the regulation that is referenced refers to car seats, not to aftermarket accessories.
I can "crash test" it to those standards by throwing it against a wall and claim it passes. As Carseatsafety stated before, there are no standards or regulations in regards to aftermarket products. There are no guidelines for testing the products and no car seat manufacturer has approved a Bundle Me for use with their seat.
The only type of cover that is safe to use is a shower cap style cover which goes over the top of the seat.

This is a great claim by JJ Cole, but the problem is that FVMS 213 only certifies seats, not after market products. The fact that the seat passed the test does not then extend to the product. The problem is that the car seat makers would not extend their apporval to the product.
Also, did they test the bundleme on every seat and perform the test? Did they just test on one. The fact is simple - there is no test or standards for aftermarket products therefore they should not be used.

I like the mirror in the car, wouldnt drive without it.
I dont check it constantly, so it's not a distraction. I look when I am at a red light, etc to see if she is sleeping or like Diana said hear choking and make sure everything is okay. If she is playing with something, confirm it's her toy and not something she should have.
I understand it can become a projectile but I would imagine many things in my car could become projectiles in the event of an accident.

While these arguements about using a mirror are compelling, I cannot endorse their use and just advise. But that said, all I can ask is that people look at these stories of use as just stories that are the exception, not the norm.

Re: Car Safety Seat Inspection- get rid of it all!
Here is a question:
Since there appears to be a need - I am willing - with the permission of my dw - to offer a Saturday a month to 6 weeks apart for a check up. Is there an interest for me to do it?

Re: Car Safety Seat Inspection- get rid of it all!
Chris- seriously, I applaud you for coming back here time and time again to help parents keep their kids safe despite being chewed out for always providing thorough answers in a professional, well worded way based on safety facts.
I hope you continue to return to give solid facts to us even if some on here respond defensively. Keep doing what you do - your facts are more important than other's opinions. I apologize for some of the responses you get on here. It is embarassing to see how people respond to you when you do nothing but educate us.... Your wording was fine - there was nothing sarcastic or rude about it.

wow ok.....
A couple of questions...if the bundle me is bad...what do you put your baby in in the cold?? I was told that the bundle me is used instead of a large bulky coat? Wouldn't that also mess up the harness? What are people to use??
We are given so much information....everything is pretty much a death trap when it comes to babies. How did we all survive??
the mirror being a projectile item? I get it...but how are we supposed to see our l little one now that the car seat has to be faced backwards? Your child could be choking on his or her own vomit and you wouldn't know because you have no idea what's going on back there?
I don't know..I think it's all so scary. Everything is recalled, everything could cause suffocation or death...it's a wonder mothers aren't going completely crazy!
Put a blanket over the straps - the baby will be fine - you will have the heat on
I never used a mirror to see my son - he was fine. You are so tuned in to your baby you will notice anything wrong. The chances of a baby choking on their vomit is small enough that you don't want to jeapordize his safety in another way.
