Carseat issue - WWYD
Damn! I am so upset right now.
Went for Tyler's 6 month checkup today. He is almost 23lbs and 29 inches long. I just looked at his infant carseat and it holds up to 22lbs and 29 inches long.
Thing is, it is sooooooooooooo convenient to be able to keep him in the infant seat while dealing with Jack. I wanted to wait it out a few more months if possible.
Do I need to take him out asap? I'm thinking I do - and I'm so upset over this! DAMN!
ETA: Would you buy another infant seat that goes alittle higher - I feel even if I use it for two more months and spend 150.00 it will SO be worth it. Am I insane?
ETA Again: Ok, after giving it some thought I think I am leaning towards buying another infant carseat. It's only 150.00 and we would need another carseat if we have another baby since this one will be old by then - so I will most likely use it again. UGH!

Unfortunately, I would say yes. If hes outgrown it, its probably not safe anymore.

Unfortunately, yes, you need to switch him. I have DD in her infant seat and have gotten blisters from lifting it BUT it is SSOOOOOOOOOO convenient....I feel your pain.

Re: Carseat issue - WWYD
Maybe you can get the snugride 32 off the buy/sell/swap thread?
On another note, the guy nest to me at work kept his kids in the infant seat until they were 2 years old!!! I almost fainted when he told me that!

Re: Carseat issue - WWYD
i had to take DS out of his infant seat at around 7 months bc he outgrew it too. i just put him in the convertible seat, rear facing. i know its convenient to use the infant seat with him, but isnt it too heavy to carry anyway?? i remember dreading having to pick up the carrier when DS was in it LOL

Re: Carseat issue - WWYD
Even though the infant seat is so convient especially with another younger child, I think it would be crazy to spend the $150 on an infant seat for 2 more months & then have to spend in upwards of $250 for the convertible seat. I would just bite the bullet now & get the convertible seat.

Really, it's just putting off the inevitable. You're going to have to deal with the situation either now, or in 2 months. There's really no difference when you think about it.
I remember being so confused about how I would handle DD being moved from the infant car seat to the convertible and of course, I figured it out in no time (as you did with Jack!). So, this is just another situation like that. You'll figure out a new routine and it'll be your new normal in no time!

You're welcome to borrow my snugride 32 for a few months!
I had the same thing w/ DS, and the 32 helped me get to 8 months at least! I had to switch due to length out of the 32 at that point.

i think it is a bit crazy. i'd try to find one to borrow from a friend where you know the condition and you know it hasn't been in an accident.

Re: Carseat issue - WWYD
I would go with the convertible. I totally hear you about the convenience b.c I'm stressing taking Madelyn out of her infant seat (I have the snugride 32 I got it b.c I wanted to get as much time out of it as possible). DD was 20 lbs even and 29 inches even at her 10 month check up. She is growing like a weed and NOT slowing down like Kaitlyn did. I got a convertible seat last weekend and I'm just trying to hold out at least another month if I can before switching her. I figure she is at least 30 inches already.
I don't think I would get another infant seat unless you think you will use it for a new baby soon only b/c they are always coming out with new things and you might want a different seat by the time you have the next one. If you really want a new infant seat - try the 32 snugride I love it and the seat is only 1.5 lbs more than the regular snugride. But if he is already 29 inches he will be out growing that one any day.

Thank you so much for offering! I actually made a ton of phone calls today and my SIL thinks her Chicco carseat goes up to 30lbs. In which case I will use hers for a few more months (as long as I can still lift the damn thing LOL)

Re: Carseat issue - WWYD
Since he is aleady over the weight limit I would switch him to the convertible seat. We switched DS at a little over 7 months old for the same reason (well he wasn't at the weight limit but at the length limit of the infant seat). This was in January and I was concerned at first but it was a great move. DS is so much happier in the convertible seat.

Re: Carseat issue - WWYD
see, I'm in the minority here...I don't think you're crazy at all...if I wasn't using mine still for dd (and will til she hits 32 lbs!!), then I would give you mine - of course your might look silly in the pink print but....
I love my snugride 32....dd#1 was in it for 14 months and it was so convenient...even more so this time around with dd#2 since dd#1 is a toddler too and it just simplifies everything! shop around - target or bbb, even brus might have one on clearance!!

Weight limits are absolute, there is no wiggle room. If your DS is 23lbs without clothes, then the seat is outgrown and you need to change his seat ASAP.
As for height, a rear facing seat is outgrown when there is 1" of room left between the top of the child's head and the edge of the seat.
I know in the other thread you said you have a convertible for your DS, I would switch him to that ASAP and then use your SIL's Keyfit if it is the 30lb model if you want to still use an infant carrier. If you do choose to buy a Snugride 32/35, you don't have to discontinue using it when you no longer can lift it. You can continue to use the seat until your DS reaches 32/35lbs or has less than 1" left of shell above his head, which could potentially be 4-6 more months.. so it really may not be a waste of $.

I am going to have the carseat installed on Tuesday morning, i am just deciding between borrowing the Chicco or biting the bullet and going right to the Evenflo
