Cash as end of year teacher's gift?
I was going to get Amazon or Visa gift cards, but would it be ok to just give cash? I would prefer to receive cash...
ETA Thanks everyone! I settled on Target gift cards. I like cash, but I don't want to make anyone feel awkward.

Thanks. I was hoping to hear from a teacher. Visa gift card is ok? I am just so bad with using gift cards myself. I always forget I have them. I was thinking I'm getting Visa gift card to be easy to use at any store, why not just give cash, lol. But I don't want the teacher to feel weird about it.

Cash as end of year teacher's gift?
I am a teacher and have gotten cash from my students. I am fine with it, and a lot of parents do that in my school, which makes it seem more normal.

IMO gift cards seem more appropriate. Cash reminds me of a tip for some reason.

Lol, it's only pre-k, but I think I have seen posts mentioning different treatment of kids who don't give gifts.

Cash as end of year teacher's gift?
I always do cash and leave a note telling them to treat themselves to something special on us. I hate spending extra money on a giftcard that has a fee and I dont want to get it to a place that they wont use. ie; my daughters teacher cant have coffee so the usual starbucks or dd goes to waste.

Well in that case, who cares since your child is outta there right after giving an end of year gift!

To me, cash is like what you give camp counselors at the end of the summer. I'd give a gift card to a teacher.

I'm a teacher -- totally fine with cash! I'd love it actually and would probably treat myself to a pedicure with it!

I give cash and will always give cash. People need cash or gift cards they can actually use not clutter.

Re: Cash as end of year teacher's gift?
I'm the class mom and collected a lump sum at the beginning of the year. Gave half for Christmas and giving rest for end of year, both in the form of a TD Bank gift card (no fees). My personal gift will include cash in a Vera Bradley purse (she's a young, fun teacher).

Not directing this at you personally, but what is the reason we do the general class gift but then everyone gives their own individual gift in addition to this? I just don't get it and I'm kind of feeling like when is it enough?

Because the class gift is only $10 for Christmas, $10 end of year (school rule is $20 max total per child per year). $10 is not nearly enough to thank this woman who spends hours a day with my son and is quite frankly the best teacher he has ever had. We will be showering her with appreciation. It's a personal choice. I don't know the statistic on how many other students also do an individual gift but I know my immediate circle of friends do.
