Cat lovers/owners, I just have few questions (hypoallergenic cat)

We would like to get a cat, but few of DH's family members are allergic and we don't want them to not be able to visit if we get a cat.

I read that there are "hypoallergenic cats"

-Does anyone have one?
-Are they really safe around people with bad cat allergies?
-Can we adopt one or do we have to buy?
-Are they more expensive and/or difficult to take care of than regular cats?
