Cats and pregnancy
I would like to go to a cat show, but I will be 9 weeks pregnant at that point. I remember hearing something about some cats having a disease that hurt pregnant women. What disease is this? Can I go to the show and be safe?
TIA

Re: Cats and pregnancy
You'll be fine. It's the litter, or rather then cat feces you need to be wary of. I have a cat and I'm halfway through my pregnancy. My husband changes the cat litter now. Go the cat show and have fun.. it's perfectly safe.

Re: Cats and pregnancy
Just don't go digging in their litter
I have three cats, they walk all over me. DH changes the litter.
ETA: the disease is called toxoplasmosis. It actually is bacteria that is in soil. So it is more common for outdoor cats to carry it.

Re: Cats and pregnancy
Actually, you can also be immune to toxoplasmosis (the disease from the litter/soil)....I think alot of ppl actually are. Not that it really matters as your cat (and my cat ) really pose no danger to us, but if it makes you rest easier, you can ask them to screen you for it any of the times they take blood from you.

Re: Cats and pregnancy
We currently have 8 cats (don't ask! 5 of them are kittens that we are trying to adopt out!) and as long as you stay away from their litter, you will be fine.
Have a great time, I love going to cat shows!

Its been funny lately because all three of them sleep so close to me at night. DH laughs when he wakes up. I have one at my feet, one laying up against my butt and the other one laying near my tummy. Its too funny.

This always makes me too. People really think you have to give up your cats when the baby comes. Does that mean you have to give up your other children every time you have a new one?
