Cats not getting along.....need advice.

We've had our cat Scout for 4 years now. Our other cat, Gunnar died this summer and she's been alone sicne then, and she's really come out of her shell. She's always been a little skittish.

About 2 weeks ago, we had to take in my in-law's 2 cats. They're 5 and 6 years old. At first, they were fine in the house, Scout let them know she was boss and they were ok with it. Recently, the 5 year old cat, Merri, has decided that she wants to be in charge. And she's been really really mean to Scout. Chasing her around the house, hissing, growling at her - it's terrible. Poor little Scout has now reverted back to her old scared self and spends most of her day under the couch, hiding.

Is there any way I can help Scout out to regain her position in the house? Or to help Scout and Merri get along? They're all good cats, but the fighting is getting out of hand (they just ran by and started growling at one another).

Honestly, I am going through the exact same thing right now with my cats. We want to keep the stray cat that we took in--we love her to death--but she is trying to assert herself as the dominant cat in the house and it is NOT working out well.

I'm going to talk to my vet about it this week...why don't you give yours a call and see what advice they have for you?

That's a good idea!

Of course, the terrorizing cat is AMAZING with my daughter. And my daughter LOVES her in return. Which just makes everything tougher!
