Cell Phones Ringing in the work place...
How to approach this?
Someone at my job constantly has their cell phone on all these obnoxious rings - when they get a call, have a v.m., or receive a text....
I figured that they'd be "embarassed" when a manager approached the issue and asked for it to be placed on vibrate, but that hasn't sunk in.
It's been going on since this person started three months ago - how do I go about this, or do I just ignore it and wait for management to say something?

I would not say anything unless it's a direct report of yours

We have this problem. I have voiced out loud "in the open" that people should be using the vibrate option.

Re: Cell Phones Ringing in the work place...
If the person reported to me, I would tell them to turn it off. If they were a co-worker on the same level as me, I would mention something to them off the cuff. Otherwise, I would say something to HR and ask them to speak with the offending party or their supervisor. It doesn't seem likely they will stop based on the numerous reminders this person has already received.

In my office all our cell phones ring all the time, its the nature of what we do.Clients call us on their mobile, we do business on our mobiles. Its the norm. I think its becoming more and more the norm these days.

I would do the same. I can't imagine why you wouldn't put it on vibrate for the office.

That is unacceptable. I would ask them to put it on vibrate once and if they don't, report it.
At my old job this woman had a rediculously obnoxious ring and it was so ******* loud you could hear it in the restroom
Um...professional atmosphere please.
