Center based schooling question

My DS might have to attend a center based preschool based on his delayed speech. He is 2 years, 3 months now has has been getting at home early intervention since the beginning of January. I want to put him into preschool in the fall but was suggested a center based school. We need to meet with the school district to be evaluated but how many parents went through this and their kids adjusted into regular school/kindergarten doing fine? Are they now on target for their age academically? So far, DS does not show clear signs of autism/aspergers according to the therapists.

My DS is in the same boat for the Fall. FYI, if speech is the only area of concern, he would not qualify for a center--they need to also show a cognitive delay. If speech is the only delay, you can continue home therapy. DS hasn't had his CPSE evals so I don't know if he will qualify, though I do know his speech services will continue. Chat Icon Does he also get special instruction, or do they suspect other issues?

Speech is a tricky thing, because I don't think they are good at predicting progress, but I don't believe that speech alone would be a reason for an integrated kindergarten classroom.

They say he also say he might have a slight cognitive delay but also say that because he is two his behavioral issues might be interfering. The therapists say they can not say much, they are not allowed ... I predict liability issues.

What therapists does he see (special inst, speech, etc)? I would push for the evals to see where he stands--our therapists were always very forthcoming about their concerns, even when my son was not diagnosed w/ PDD-NOS (which is much more common than an autism/aspergers diagnosis at that age). IMO cognitive testing is always tricky at age 2 since 2 year olds are inherently not obedient, but they do use it as an evaluative tool. But if they are refusing to discuss further issues, I would push things with the county EI rep. at this point for an exhaustive eval, or start evals. within the district.

I'm already on top of them to give me an evaluation. I am working the system and making sure I get my tax dollars worth!
