Re: ceramic or porcelain tile?
Porcelain is less porous than ceramic therefore you have a better water barrier. But ceramic tile is fine for a bathroom - the surface really shouldn't fail. The only time porcelain is truly better is in a freezing condition (i.e. outside) where a ceramic can freeze and crack, so it's better to go for a non porous tile.
I worked for a ceramic tile distributor for many years and I will give you this advice.
Go for smaller joints in and around the tub and windows (and everywhere else in a bathroom really)--- less grout lines, less chance of grout failure and water breaking through.
For my window in the shower I used a pink epoxy waterproofing paint then used granite to frame the inside of the window, with a small lip on the bottom. The only joints I have are at the 4 corners of the window now.
The higher the PEI rating on a tile, the more durable the tile is (usually a thicker tile and has less chance of chipping).
Seal your grout joints and mark your calendar to do it again every 1-2 years.
