Changing Table HEL L !!!!!!!!!!!! WWYD
So my 15 month old son is taking after mommy with his stubborn and thick headed attitude!! Tanturms GALLORE!!!!! About everything..getting into the car...not being able to watch Dino Dan and Thre Fresh Beat Band from the moment he enters the house until bedtime...
BUT: The most annoying and important one...the darn changing table.. all of a sudden he HATES getting dressed in the morning.. wants OUT OF HIS ROOM IMMEDIATELY...Throws a tantrum like no other... screams like someone is hurting him!!!!!
So...would you give in and change him in the living room.. or stay strong and keep using the changing table.
Oh and there is NOOOO guarantee he would be any better in the lving room...he will want to run around and play or cry because..YEAP... DINO DAN AND the FBB isn't on tv>
tia!
ETA: DAYCARE SAYS HE'S AWESOME ON THEIR CHANGING TABLE.

Re: Changing Table HEL L !!!!!!!!!!!! WWYD
When my DD became a nightmare on the changing table, I changed her on the floor in front of the TV. If one of her shows was not on, the DVR became my best friend & I had shows recorded for this purpose or I used On Demand shows.

Re: Changing Table HEL L !!!!!!!!!!!! WWYD
Ugh... there's always saints at daycare. LOL!
Honestly, Mason isn't the best in the morning. He's a typical boy and needs his sleep, but there are some mornings I got to get him up to get him out for daycare so mommy can get to work
I've been doing it on my bed now. Thank goodness for DVR. Got a lot of his shows recorded so that keeps him occupied while I dress him. It's usually a recorded episode of Dora while I get him dressed on our bed. Then I keep reminding him he'll get milk when we're done. Put him in the chair and while he's drinking his milk I turn on the car with his music so it's another distraction and he won't fight getting in his carseat if he hears Mickey singing his "Mickey and Mason" music I got him. LOL! I don't remember the last time I used the changing table. I'll change him where I can... on the kitchen floor, den floor while he's watching TV, in the playroom, our bed, etc

I always change DS on the floor. He throws a royal fit and sobs each time he gets dressed. He's only 6 months! On the floor, he can't roll over & hurt himself!

Re: Changing Table HEL L !!!!!!!!!!!! WWYD
see the problem with the TV suggestions is my son doesn't have limits...(for lack of a better word) if his show is on..it has to be on ALLLLLLLL THE TIME!!!!!
we are trying to break him of his HORRIBLE TV ADDICTION!!!
We go thru the mornings with the radio on and some days he tantrums and tries to find the remote to turn on his shows.. it's horrible!!
So the tv must stay off in the morning!!
Do they have rehab for tv addicted kids...

Re: Changing Table HEL L !!!!!!!!!!!! WWYD
I gave up the changing table months ago-I change DS on the floor.
And honestly, I change both of my kids in the family room. I get their clothes out the night before and put them on the ottoman before I go to bed. When they get up, I change them there.
Don't know how I got into this habit, I think it's because I usually pick out an outfit as I am folding laundry and just set the clothes aside. But, we do need to get them changed upstairs.

You wouldn't be the first parent to pin them down on the floor with a changing pad.

I would tell him the TV is broken-I've done that when I needed to get Claire though TV withdrawal. However, she now knows how to click it on, so now we just have to be straight with her:
"Claire, you are a little TV junkie and this is an intervention. You can only watch 5 hours of TV a night. 6 is just too much."

Re: Changing Table HEL L !!!!!!!!!!!! WWYD
DS is 13 months old and we stopped using the changing table a while ago because he just wouldn't cooperate and I was too scared that he would fall off.
I use a changing pad on the floor, but that still does not stop the dramatic tantrums every time he needs his diaper changed or his clothes changed
I've tried giving him toys, etc. but he still insists on throwing a massive fit

the funny thing is john is at daycare all day.. so I dont get how he got addicted by just watching 1/2 to 1 hour a day!! Crazy kid!!

My feeling is..if he still isn't going to be good on the floor where is it more difficult physically for me to change him...why move from the table ya know....

DS is 17 months and pulls the same crap with me. DC says he is great. At home you would think I was torturing him. I've tried everything. This morning I tried yelling. Nothing works. Let me know if something works for you... he's been like this for as long as I can remember!

Re: Changing Table HEL L !!!!!!!!!!!! WWYD
Honestly, my DD is 15 months and I change her wherever she will let me.
And it usually involves giving her something completely inappropriate to play with while I change her to get her to sit still and stop twisting and turning over!

Re: Changing Table HEL L !!!!!!!!!!!! WWYD
I never had a changing table so it was usually on the bed.
usually I give him a small toy to hold and we "talk" about it...or I sing songs or count his "stinkies" (toes and feet).
if he has a tv "problem" don't involve it further. distract him with your voice, with tickles.
another thing that works is giving him a piece of clothing to "fold"
but really, just try to make it fun for both of you. we wrestle a little first. then I ask him "is that peeps in your diaper" and we say "ugh or yuck" and take it from there. sometimes he tries to roll and I place my arm on his body and sing or laugh or say something to distract him.

Re: Changing Table HEL L !!!!!!!!!!!! WWYD
I know I shouldn't be laughing, but you just described Travis. We retired the changing table a little while ago and diaper changing and getting dresses are a disaster. I sadly have to practically put my legs on top of his to keep him still to change his butt. I try to give him something new to play with and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn;t. I am just hoping this phase doesnt last long.

DD is doing the same things now at 21 months. She flips herself over. I tell her, Mommy will just learn how to dress you flipped over.
I WILL WIN CHILD!!!! LOL. Just kidding.
I can't do it on the floor or in front of the tv because once the clothes come off, she's running around the house like all crazy. I'm better off with the changing table madness!!!

Yes, it seems that my DD will only sit still for things that she's not supposed to play with. Try to give her an age appropriate toy and she throws it... but give her 2 highlighter markers, a fork, a bottle of lotion, a toy mouse that my cat plays with, or a toy that has "small parts not for children under 3" and she's a happy camper who doesn't move an inch!
Then the challenge is taking it away from her when we are done getting changed!

Re: Changing Table HEL L !!!!!!!!!!!! WWYD
I'm jealous you were even able to use the changing table at that age!!! I think we retired ours at like 7 months lol she's been a NIGHTMARE ever since.
OMG she kicks, screams, gets hysterical every. single. changing.
i also absolutely dread having to change her while we're out. Last week I was in BRU picking up the new babies crib and she went poops. i took my mother in there with me to hold her down. The screams and yells coming from the changing room were insane. I'm surprised no one called the cops on me for abuse. Seriously lol we cant even hold her down anymore. She's stronger than 2 grown adults!!
At home i change her on the floor. I give her remotes, cell phones, dvds, the mouse to the computer, pens, books..anything she wants just to keep her still for a min. And when those dont work (which is often) it takes me about 20 mins to complete the change. I"ll let her get up, walk around naked, eventually put the diaper on as shes standing there trying to run away (then it's on all crooked , and i dont even care) then i'll put an article of clothing every few mins until she's all dressed. I loatheeeeeee that part of the day

Re: Changing Table HEL L !!!!!!!!!!!! WWYD
I stopped using the changing table when DS fell off it at like 9mo old. I was done with it. he was too mobile.
I change DS on the floor in his room or living room. and usually change his diaper in the living room. i have a diaper caddy that has diapers, creams, mat, etc. that i keep down there. I'd be crippled if i had to keep hauling him upstairs and hauling him on the changing table.
