Charlotte ladies - We're coming to visit the first week of July!

We're taking the family trip down to Myrtle Beach 6/29-7/7, but Rich and I are taking 2 days (prob Mon and Tues, 7/1 and 7/2) to drive up to Charlotte and explore.

We're specifically looking at schools (employment opportunities for Rich), communities, and apartments.

We will most likely be leaving LI the Summer of 2008. Rich grads with his masters in May, we're free to go after that.

We're not looking to purchase right away, just in case ..the move is a big giant step for us, so we're hoping to rent for a few months to a year to make sure we're 100% positive before we spend the money on a house.

Does anyone have any pointers for us?

Thank youuuu Chat Icon

Re: Charlotte ladies - We're coming to visit the first week of July!

a fun area to live would be uptown, the university area (where I live) or south park (very nice area).....

Uptown is "the city", University area is the area near UNCC and south park is an upscale area with lots of shopping...not sure about the schools, sorry

HTH

Maybe we should have a GTG when you guys are in town Chat Icon Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon smart move with renting first. The house bids we had put in fell through, and Thank God, because location wise...it would have been limiting to us with DH's job.

Charlotte is great, but depending on what you and Rich do for a living, outskirts may offer you something different. It's just finding the right outskirtChat Icon

Luckily, Leo's job is based on the outskirts, so that's most likely where we will be buying. All of a sudden, home prices drop. You don't have to be too weary of school systems.

If you do stay in Charlotte, which has a ton to offer...I am in my second Charlotte apartment. First was southpark, second is Ballantyne. Southpark is really niceChat Icon , Ballantyne is really nice tooChat Icon Chat Icon

We are fans of Birkdale/Huntersville. Its a different price range, 20 minutes north of Uptown.

DH currently works in Union county(monroe) Homes are affordable down there and schools are growing.

With DH's job, we still have 2 more moves before we can buy.

I have seen my share of apts down here. Let me know if you need help.

We definitely need to meet up for an evening. Chat Icon It's great because we all live in different sections as well, so everyone can give their input.

We live in Ballantyne (Charlotte) right next to Janice.Chat Icon
Area is nice but homes are pricer here. We are buying a home in the Steel Creek area but alsp looked in Union County becuase homes are cheaper and taxes are lower.
Good luck... we all need to get together .

I think I am going to be feeling like you soon. I am almost positive we are mountain bound. Leo can hardly stand it, he's been pricing snow boards and looking into ski schools for Josh.

I will totally miss Lif'ers around Charlotte

Re: Charlotte ladies - We're coming to visit the first week of July!

We too are probably going to be relocating to this area. We have about 6-7 people /friends moving and we decided we will too when the timing is right( job etc) ....

Anyone know much about waxhaw? Thats where we would be looking ( union county)...

We too are gonna likely rent before buying....

Is it do-able to live there and work in charlotte?

Re: Charlotte ladies - We're coming to visit the first week of July!

My degree is in business, so I'm willing to do anything really. I know banking is huge down there, so I'd be interested in that....I'm sure admin assistant would be awesome..... I don't really care, as long as I'm paid and happy.

My brother wants to go to High Point University! He's starting his senior yr in Sept.

Yes banking is very big here! I'm sure you can find a job fast in that field!
Bank of America and Wachovia have their corporate offices in Charlotte...but I believe another hotspot is Raliegh. Some other big Banks down here are BB&T,& SunTrust.

High Point University is a good school! Its 10 minutes away from me! But I'm going to UNCG in the fall to start my Masters.

When I was working in NY...the more I would talk to bankers down here, the more they made it seem as though we were needed=NYC transplants admins.

They are NYC bankers, but rarely do their NYC assists follow them down. So they like NYC paced assistants.

I was preggo and not really looking for a job, so I put my resume out there, I go so many replies. Definitely booming.

Any of you teachers?
How did you go about getting a job?

Rich is 6 credits shy of a masters in Special Ed, but he would really prefer not to teach special ed....he'd like to stay elementary.

point blank...it will be tough, but I know a girl who does it. My old leasing agent at an apt in south charlotte did it. She lived out there and commuted everyday.

In a nutshelll, traffic is going to kill you.

You have about 12 miles of non interstate road, then you get to 485. Everyone takes 485 to get into the city...to 77. Lisa(lvlz) would be able to give you a better gauge for time. She gets on 485 every morning.

But people who live in Waxhaw love Waxhaw. We looked into it since DH currently works in Monroe. Problem is, it's pretty rural and not really that many apartment complexes at all. You would probably have to look into renting a house.

I work in an Elementary School as a Langauge Facilitator...I work with the Hearing Impaired students.
I applied on www.teach4nc.com,
filled that app out and you can send it to all the public and private schools state wide.
I got an interview within two weeks of posting and a job just two weeks later.
