NY State has a standard rate- you should be able to google it- I think its 17% of his income for 1 kid, not sure for 2 kids

When you go to court they look at income from both parents. Which parent has health insurance and provides it for the kids. The percentage to separate medical bills.

It's a % of the income. I think it may be 25% for 2 kids, maybe more.

25% for two kids. This would probably be good on stepparents, although I dont think that gets frequented much.

Re: child support - not sure where to ask this
the way the math is done:
mom's income + dad's income = X
X is then divided by proper% (17% for one kid... not sure for two)
if dad makes 75% of X, then he pays 75% of the new figure (it's a round about way of coming to almost the same number... but this is how NYS does it)
after they come up with that number for the base, then the same %age is calculated for "extras"; ie summer camp, baby sitter, after school programs, band.
health insurance is usually to the parent whose expense is smaller (through employer) and the other parent pays his/her share.
hope i didn't confuse anyone, but this is how the child support my son's father pays me has been calculated since day one.

Re: child support - not sure where to ask this
Sorry to hijack but I always wondered this...
Let's say you decide on child support amount.
Later, the ex goes on to have more kids. Do they take into account that the ex is responsible for supporting more children?
Is there an appeal process or you need to go back to court?

"first come, first served" is what the court mediator said

I guess i am alittle confused (sorry) lets say that they both make 40,000 so that is 80,000 and 25% is for two kids... what do i do next?

Re: child support - not sure where to ask this
if both mom and dad make 40K and the total is 80K, then you multiply that by the %age, which is 25%
25% of 80K is 20K.
since their incomes are the same, each parent is responsible for 50% of the 20K, or 10K/year. nys does it on a weekly basis, so that's $384.62/week.
then each parent is responsible for 50% of additional stuff: after school, sports, day care, etc
