Christmas Tree Decorating Question
When you decorate your Christmas tree, do you go with a theme, or color scheme? Or do you just use all different mix and match ornaments? I am very anal about my tree and everything has to match. I decorate only with ornaments, bows, rope, etc in the same color family (burgandy/gold right now) I feel like anything else would clash in my livingroom since all my accents are burgandy. Even the lights have to be white so as not to clash. I tell family/friends not to buy me any keepsake ornaments, etc beccause I just won't put it on my tree if it doens't match...I also don't like a TON of ornaments on the tree- I find it looks too busy..
But I think I'm in the minority here- I was just curious what everyone else did.

Re: Christmas Tree Decorating Question
We have all different colored lights, all different ornaments. A bunch of colored balls, and also sentimental ornaments. It's bright and busy, but I like how it comes out each year

Re: Christmas Tree Decorating Question
I haven't put a tree up in a couple of years but it was a mish mosh of ornaments and colors. I like snow people & marching soldiers so there are quite a few of them. There are some filler ornaments from the first year I had a big tree and needed to decorate it with something but probably 90% of the ornaments have a sentimental reason for being there - gifts, hand made, vacations, etc.

Re: Christmas Tree Decorating Question
We don't have a theme but do pay very close attention to how crowded everything is so we don't overwhelm it.

Re: Christmas Tree Decorating Question
My favorite thing about Christmas is decorating the tree, I love puling out ornaments that where gifts or especailly the handmade ones and remembering the person or the event that they went along with.
My parents tree has 45 years of memories from our family and some ornaments that belonged to my grandparents, i LOVE that tree, it warms my heart to see it.
I have friends who buy new ornaments every year so they can have a very pretty themed tree. I like my mis-matched tree :D

Re: Christmas Tree Decorating Question
I'm very anal about our tree also. I have to have white lights and my color scheme is red and gold. I will put a couple of ornaments on that don't match the scheme, but they were gifts and have sentimental value. These are usually silver or white though and not some outlandish color.

No, we have no theme. I just put ornamants that I like. I try to buy a new one from each vacation to have a keepsake of our travels.

Re: Christmas Tree Decorating Question
No real theme for us, just white lights and ornaments that were either given to us , we bought or that I made. There is also a small angel on top and I don't use regular garlan, just the one that is little silver balls.

Re: Christmas Tree Decorating Question
Nope no theme, just all the ornaments we have collected over the years, separately and together. And lights used to be blue but now we have the white ones and a start on top.
ETA: I do do all my wrapping in a coordinated theme/colors. My fave is silver, blue and white. My sister calls it my Chanukkah Christmas!

Re: Christmas Tree Decorating Question
I'm big on themes/color schemes for the Christmas tree. I prefer white lights over assorted colors. However since DH & I got together he started a tradition of getting me (and now DD) an ornament every year. As a result I now have blue & silver ornaments (my color scheme) with all the snowflakes (his ornament of choice) he has purchased together with some keepsake ornaments (our first Christmas, birth of DD, our new house etc).

Re: Christmas Tree Decorating Question
I love when I see theme trees where everything is a certain color scheme..I think it is so pretty.
Growing up my parents always collected ornaments from traveling and just throughout the year. We now do this as well so our tree is all mismatched I love having different ornaments from different places.
So as much as I love the look of a matching tree I doubt we will ever have one
