Cleaning Bottles
I use Dr. Brown's bottles and I have the microwave sterilizer. From day one, I have rinsed the bottles/parts and put them right in the sterilizer. Then they go in the microwave for about 4 minutes.
I have never actually washed them with soap. I just thought of this yesterday which I know probably sounds ridiculous. I guess I never thought about it since I was rinsing them right away and then they were being sterilized.
Should I start cleaning them with soap before being sterilized?

Re: Cleaning Bottles
i only ever sterilized the bottles once - although i do sterilize the nipples occasionally. i think it's fine to just wash them with soap and water after you use them.
actually i don't know that i would ever just rise them out and not wash them, and then sterilize, i feel that like that wouldn't really get the formula residue out, KWIM?

Re: Cleaning Bottles
I used Born Free for a while and I always cleaned them with soapy water before sterilizing them.

Re: Cleaning Bottles
I always wash with soap and water. I always sterilize new bottles/nipples. I don't sterilize on a regular basis ~ I would read the pamplet that comes with your bottles ~ I just bought Dr Browns bottles over the weekend and it says not to sterilize the nipples often (dont have the exact wording) when DS wakes up (he is sleeping on my lap) I will see if I can dig the directions out of the garbage....

Re: Cleaning Bottles
I used Dr. Brown's as well. I'd first wash everything in soap and water (Dove) and then sterilize it. I probably sterilized everything more often when DS was younger. As he got older, I think I just sterilized every week or so.

Thank you! I have all of my directions/manuals in a drawer. I will have to look at it. Now I am really curious about the sterilizing of the nipples because my DD has been struggling a little with her eating...hmmm. I am wondering if this could have anything to do with it. I sterilize these bottles/parts after every use! I appreciate your help.

Re: Cleaning Bottles
The dishwasher will get the bottles just as "sterile" as any dedicated "sterilizer". Once the bottles come out of either the dishwasher or the dedicated "sterilizer", they are no longer sterile. Once the air touches them, they aren't sterile.
We saved a ton of time, energy and effort by just using the dishwasher.
