Cloth diaper moms
Can anyone give me a crash course on cloth diapering....I know nothing but would love to try it.
Can I do it with newborns? Which brands do you prefer/not? How many to buy at first? What about g diapers/similar? How often do you wash? What are the prices?
Anything else I need to know!!
TIA!!!

Re: Cloth diaper moms
I went the cheap way. I bought 24 prefolds, 2 snappi's and 4 covers(I like Thirsties brand covers the best). I also have a couple Kawaii pocket diapers(has a pocket that you stuff with absorbent inserts). I bought 24 cloth wipes which is enough for 2 days. I wash every other day. I started from 1 day old. I have had to size up in prefolds and covers one time so far (my guy was born at 10lbs and is 21lbs at 5 months). I order from cottonbabies.com.

Re: Cloth diaper moms
I have 17 sunbaby diapers, 2 kawaii nighttime diapers, 4 bestbottom covers with 12 microfiber and 12 hemp inserts. I wash about every 2 days. I prefer my sunbabies better. I like the pockets better than the hybrid and I really thought I would live my bestbottoms but I love my sunbabies more. I use country save detergent and fm me if you want my wash routine. I use coconut oil every diaper change love that stuff. I have disposables the first couple of weeks that were given as a gift which was good cause of his belly button and circumcision. But I will never go back love my cloth diapers.

Re: Cloth diaper moms
Can I do it with newborns? yes
Which brands do you prefer/not? I prefer an AI2 system (also called hybrid) which is an insert in a cover. Once the insert is soiled, if the cover is clean I wipe it out and will be able to reuse it again while the insert goes into the wet bag. I use Best Bottoms and Bum Genious Flips with their inserts and organic prefolds. I like the BB best, but I love that I can use disposable inserts with the Flips when we are out for a long period of time.
How many to buy at first? At first you would need enough for 12 diapers a day, times how many days you want to go between washings. Basic recommendation is 12 covers with 24 inserts. I have 24 covers and 34 inserts. Cloth diapers are soo cute!
What about g diapers/similar? Honestly, there are other options that are much cheaper, but you have to order online.
How often do you wash? When she was a newborn I washed every day. After a few months I went down to every other and starting at about 6 months I can even go 3 days, but I don't like to let them sit that long in the wet bag. I use country save detergent. It runs about $10 a box but I am only on my 3rd box and it's been almost a year.
What are the prices? It all depends on what type you want to you use. There are so many different options. A prefold with a snappi is really inexpensive. AI1 run more money. I invested about $700 with only about $100 more to spend and that should last her until potty training. It is sooo much cheaper than disposables. I also use cloth wipes. I hate literally throwing money away with baby wipes.
Online retailers like Nickisdiapers.com have a trial period so that you can try them out before you make the investment and you can try out different types of diapers. Also diaperswappers.com is a great resource. I learned so much from the forums.
If you want to come over and take a look at the diapers, FM me. I didn't know anyone who used cloth diapers so I took a leap of faith. I wish I could have been able to see them before I bought them.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
