I was at train too! Everybody was up dancing. They can stand up if they can't see. Some people just like to bring others down.

We went to see bnl a few years ago at pnc. They're was a literal fight in front of us. The girl finally screamed at the people behind them your at a ***** concert. Then the woman pushed the girl and it got nasty. Security came. But here's the kicker, for the encore the people bitchinf about the girls standing stood up. The guy next to them called them on it! Ha!

This is almost what happened with my son's gf's mom and the women behind them. She said dont u dare put your hands on my daughter and the women starting yelling at her calling her a psycho etc. She had to get security! all because her daughters wanted to stand up and enjoy the music. Its nuts.

Re: Concert Etiquette

I go to concerts to have fun. If someone wants to sit, that's their choice but it isn't going to stop me from standing up and dancing.

So glad you posted this..I have the country mega ticket and have been to three concerts in the last three weeks at the beach. My seats are in the upper new part but the first row and me and my husband have debates every night because our section seems to want to sit and if we stand then we are starting that everyone has to stand. We have stood a little but it's such an awkward situation. I have no idea when sitting got so popular at concerts it sucks

Yup it really does suck!

Re: Concert Etiquette

It depends on the venue, I think. I wouldn't stand at a show at the Boulton Center, for example, unless I had a seat all the way in the back.

I was at Jones Beach for the Rammstein show last night. From the moment they got on stage until the last song, everyone in front of me was on their feet (I was up in one of the middle sections). I didn't stand for the whole show, but that was my choice. I wouldn't expect the folks in front of me to sit down just because I decided to.

I was there too...but we were up kinda high. Nobody stood, except for one girl. Another guy stood by railing and security asked him to sit. I guess it depends on where your seat is.

Everyone around us was standing. I think DH and I were the only ones sitting.

I had a problem with the woman directly behind me who had this high-pitched, piercing scream. It went right through me. I briefly thought about saying something, but figured it wasn't worth it. I stuck my finger in my ear instead. Chat Icon

I was in the Orchestra last night and everyone was standing the whole time. I sat for the cover song just to give my feet a rest since we had to hoof it back over the bridge to the remote parking lot.

I didn't see one disagreement or fight, which is amazing. Must have been all the foreigners. Chat Icon

My horrendous foot pain and bad back (and extreme laziness Chat Icon)would not allow me to ever stand for a whole concert but I would never think to say something to others that were standing.
I feel like standing is a given and if you need or want to sit, it's your own issue to deal with.

Re: Concert Etiquette

I've encountered this at Jones Beach too.

I often feel bad for the sitting, older people behind me and will sit for most of the concert and stand for the songs that really move me. My DH usually follows my lead if it's a concert I choose and if it's one of his choice (usually a harder rock) he'll stand the entire time no matter what people say behind him.

If it's one I know I'll want to enjoy, dance and stand for I get the more expensive seats to avoid the awkwardness.

I must be the old fart of the group. I sit and I expect those around me to sit. Unless the concert is GA and then I will not go. But I have never experienced any one standing around me. And when people have stood security always told them to sit.

I think it depends on the type of concert it is. If it is a concert that makes people want to dance, its unreasonable for people to expect the crowd will remain seated for the entire show. However, if the band has a mellow following (i.e. Barbara Streisand or Josh Groban), then I might give a pass to people who are annoyed by people standing.

For me, my friends and I are always dancing and singing along but so is everyone else around me. In that scenario, I wouldn't sit down because the crowd governs.

ETA: My friends and I avoid Jones Beach, even though it is literally 5 minutes from my house.

Re: Concert Etiquette

i alternate between standing and sitting. I do get up and shake my arse. Last year I went to see Peter Gabriel / STing with my dad. I stood for the songs I liked. Sometimes I had to stand just b/c everyone else was and i couldnt see. Oh well. I would never ask the person in front to sit. ITS A CONCERT. we're not talking about a slow artist or more mellow performance, or broadway show. Upbeat shows require upbeat crowds. People are just f**king lazy and want to sit all day.

Im taking my 7 yr old to see OneREpublic this summer. I bought seats 5 rows back but I KNOW this is going to be an issue b/c of everyone in front and he will have his view blocked. So he will either need to stand on his chair, or I will have to bribe the persons sitting at the end of the row to maybe switch seats so he can at least be out in the aisle. We have seats in the center so hopefully I can work something out with someone.

and i've already warned him that mama will be shaking her booty and he better not tell me to stop dancing Chat Icon

I dance to anything and everything and the only concerts i go to are ones i can dance at (saw dead and company this weekend and did not sit at all). We never even made it to our ticketed seats! Lol

I guess i would feel bad if someone was sitting behind me But not that bad where I would sit myself

Re: Concert Etiquette

if people don't want anyone to stand in front of them then buy a seat that is in the first row of the section.

As pp said, it's one thing if you are seeing Michael Crawford.... or seeing an opera singer perform...

I already posted about how ridiculous it is to SIT at a concert, again, stay home if you are going to complain, but I went to see The Band Perry at Westbury....the middle age, 300 lb woman behind me was complaining because I was standing and dancing like everyone else...so since I was at the end I moved in the aisle, Security told me I couldn't stay in the aisle I said well old lady behind me is complaining, he's like too bad, she can complain all she wants, you can stand at your seat!

I was at Dierks Bentley too.
I would never ask anyone in front of me to sit down, if I can't see then I will stand too, it's not a big deal.

My biggest complaint Friday was all the pot smoking. It was probably people right next to me but it was awful, every 30 minutes there were lighting up again.

Standing doesn't bother me, usually a mix of both, but if I wanted to make sure I had a good view and could sit and see the whole time, I'd buy the first row of whatever section I'm buying tickets in.

lol,
Some old lady near us whacked a girl in front of her with her handbag because the girl was standing. She then thundered off looking for security, came back with a very pissed looking face.

That concert crowd was weird - a lot of old folks that must be season ticket holders and go to EVERY concert.

I was at the Billy Joel concert at MSG last night. The lady next to me asked everyone to sit down! She couldn't get the attention of the people a few rows ahead so she asked the security guard to ask them to sit. He said that he can't ask people to sit. Thankfully she left early so I had more room to dance!

This thread is hilarious.. i can't even imagine sitting at any concert. It's music.. the whole point of seeing a band live is to immerse yourself in the experience and enjoy yourself. Unless you physically cannot stand, then of course you do whatever you need to be comfortable.

But as a rule, I don't buy tickets in seats, period. I only do GA. Works for me, because most bands i like play in GA venues anyway.

Unless its a venue where someone is playing that only has seats, and i have no choice.
Like, i'm going to see Roger Waters in Sept and we have seats - its going to be VERY weird for me, and let me tell you, if someone asks me to sit down.. we're all going to have problems because there is no way i'm going to sit down.

I guess i'll have to start a separate thread on GA etiquette and how funny it is to have people that get pisssy when you stand 'in their spot' Chat Icon Chat Icon

I hate GA. We went to a show recently and the people behind us did not stop trying to push us out of the way. Mind you, there was no room in front of us, so they really just wanted our spot and they were all like 7 feet tall. It was my first and likely my last GA concert.

I am going to see NKOTB tonight and ZBB the morrow night. I plan on standing at some point for both of them and won't be surprised if I am standing for the majority of it.
Whoever doesn't like it can kiss may fat ass Chat Icon Chat Icon

In all seriousness I would hope no one would care. If I was asked to sit I would consider it but if I really like the song and wanted to get up I would.
