Confused, frustrated - PCOS and clomid
A little background on me is that I was diagnosed with a prolactinoma many years ago. At the time, I began taking medication to lower my prolactin and when it was normal, my period became regular. I stopped taking the medication because of the side effects. I was then on bc for 3 years before stopping this past September. My period never returned and in January I began taking the medication for my prolactin again and was told by my endo and the RE that the expected my period to return to normal. Even though my prolactin levels are somewhat in the normal range, no period for me.
Fast forward to now... I am in the middle of my first clomid cycle (50mg). I went for a sono today (CD15) and my largest follie was 10 with a few others that were 8 and some 7. The NP told me that there is apattern with my eggs that indicates PCOS and that this can be harder and longer to figure out. Also that PCOS tends to be stubborn and hopefully the medication will help.
I have to go back on Wednesday for another sono but it seems like this cycle was a wash. Will the 100mg of clomid really make a difference of am I just wasting more time? Is there anyway for them to tell by how your reacted to 50mg how you will react to 100mg. I left the RE feeling totally discouraged. I started all of this thinking we needed just a little help and today I feel like there are so many things wrong. If you read this far, thank you so much. I am just having an awful day and don't know what to think....

Re: Confused, frustrated - PCOS and clomid
You are definitely not wasting your time. The average length of time to be on Clomid before moving on is 3 cycles, because there are three different dosages- 50, 100 and 150mg. The good news is that your body IS responding, you are making eggs- they just aren't getting big fast enough on the 50mg. I would absolutely give the 100mg a shot. Many, many women with PCOS have gotten pregnant using Clomid- several on the boards. When I did Clomid I started with 50mg and had absolutely NO reaction to it- just really bad side effects.
I hope it works for you next time around!

Thanks so much! I wasn't even sure if my body was responding at all. I really need to talk to my doctor about all of this but I figured I would wait until my next sono on Wednesday and take it from there.

Re: Confused, frustrated - PCOS and clomid
You are so not wasting your time. A PCOS diagnosis is not the end of the world and not necessarily always difficult and complicated to figure out.
I was diagnosed with PCOS and went to see an RE. I think I started with 100mg of Clomid plus IUI and we got pregnant right away. Try not to get discouraged, I know it's not always easy,

Re: Confused, frustrated - PCOS and clomid
You are definately not wasting you time. Different bodies handle Clomid differently. I also have PCOS and started my final cycle of Clomid 150 mg. I had lots of follies but all were measuring 7mm . Dont worry if its not Clomid it will be something else! PCOS is one of the most "treatable" infertility disorders there. Hang in there and if you need someone to talk to please FM me looks like you and I are on the same boat!
