Bad pedi advice? So frustrated and confused (long)
We recently went to the 15 month visit and got Andrew's flu shot but I am holding off on the MMR at least until after the holidays or maybe even the 18 month visit, I'm not sure yet.
Thats not what this is about though.
I dont want to mention who the doctor is b/c alot of people on here go but he is SO hard to talk to. I really try but he is so vague and ... well annoying!
I told him about Andrew not eating veggies on his own. He eats all foods pretty well but when I put veggies on his tray he looks at it like I put a smooshed bug there and he even loses his appetite for anything else. So I give him his veggies via baby food. I asked if this was "ok" and I got a pretty weak answer. Something about creating a bad habit... I thought to myself "yea Andrew will be opening a Stage 2 at his senior prom right?" So I asked if it was more important that he is getting the vitamins and nutrition from the veggies and he started to go on and on about obesity in children. This was all about 5 minutes after we talked about Andrew being in the 15th percentile mind you...
I am sticking with what feels right which is Andrew getting a balanced diet no matter how what form it is in. I still offer the veggies every meal but thats all I can do.
Any thoughts/advice? Thanks.

at 15 months, I don't see any difference in eating mashed peas as I would see eating mashed potatoes or applesauce.
if you are getting veggies into him, that's great!

He actually loves all the baby food veggies. All the doctor cared about was me not force feeding him or giving him too much milk or juice.

takke the food-pureee it and mix it with his food-like some carrots in mashed potatoes or whatever. or mix the baby food with the real food. It is fine. There are kids that eat nadddddddddda.

I have tried this and he actually separates the chunks of veggies or whatever it is he doesnt like in his mouth and spits it out and keeps the stuff he likes in his mouth. But thanks for the reminder that some kids dont eat at all.

I don't think all doctors are well versed in nutrition in general.
I think if you are getting him to eat the stage 2 veggies, I would keep doing that for now. He might not like the textures of the whole veggies right now, but might eventually. I would keep feeding him what he will eat and keep trying the cut up veggies.

Thanks! Honestly I dont even think its the texture but the "look" of the veggies.

My DS won't eat veggie either. My ped didn't seem worried about it since he eats pretty much anything else. It still bothers me though.
I will puree veggies til they are the same texture as baby food andmix them into regular food (my SIL just mixes in the baby food) I add it to sauce on raviolis, mashed potatoes, turkey meatballs, meatloaf etc. And because it is pureed he has no idea!

i don't know anything about what he "should" be doing, but my friend still gives her daughter baby food from a jar - and she is 18 months old. her DD will eat a LOT of different foods (last week she had edamame ) but i think she just likes the baby food too.
IMO, he is getting his veggies and that is the most important thing. it's not like he's going to be in kindergarten and still eating baby food

Well I'm not near that stage yet, but I was just thinking that there are plenty of veggies *I* won't eat unless they are mixed with other things I think what you are doing is fine and maybe you should look for another ped. It sounds like you aren't 100% comfortable with this guy and there is no reason to stay there if you aren't.

Yeah... I think you are right about that. There is another doctor in the group who I love and its funny that if he was there that day, I wouldnt even be feeling any of this. But I guess he cant be there all the time.

I would continue with teh baby food! as long as he eats that, I don't see what the difference is, and he still so little only 15 months don't worry about it!!!

at 15 months, DD was still eating certain baby food.. especially veggies and fruits.
Just keep trying w/ the veggies, but if he likes the baby food veggies, no biggy.

Re: Bad pedi advice? So frustrated and confused (long)
I personally know two ADULTS (around 30ish) that eat baby applesauce to get fruits... so I think your 15 month old is OK.
