Constipation in 4.5 month old

Dd started solids two weeks ago. She has oatmeal in her bottles for reflux and has had squash, sweet potaties and carrots. She is a bit constipared now. She has gone everyday but it ia drier than normal and she strains to go (doesnt cry but turns red and grunts). Would you introduce pears or just give her pear juice? today would be day 4 of carrots. Is pear juice or pears better for constipation?

I wouldn't give anything for constipation because it doesnt sound like she really is constipated. Everytime you introduce new food types (first cereal, then fruits and veggies, then more solid food, etc.) their digestive systems will kind of readjust for a few days to get used to the new textures and how to process them. So their poop will be a little different. Being that she is still going every day and not in pain (maybe just having to work a little harder!), I wouldn't do anything different. Just keep going with the new foods and her body will get used to it.

That doesn't sound like constipation to me either. My DD does this too now since we started solids. She still poops once or twice a day but it's a different texture and I can actually see her pushing now.

i agree thats prob not constipation. my ped says its only constipation if the poop comes out like hard balls ("doody balls" ). jut straining and slightly harder texture usually isnt a problem. my ped said to give benefiber when that happens, although i havent tried it yet..

you might want to try a multigrain cereal... rice made DS constipated, oatmeal was better but the multi has helped so much. It might help the poops a little.
