Cops are human too..just heard breaking news..
The lieutenant in the case with the man who was tasered and fell to his death, has committed suicide this morning.
Apparently, he was the one who gave the order to tase the man. Not saying I ever agreed with doing this BUT this just goes to show, cops are human too. They make mistakes. They feel. They hurt. This man shot himself at a police faciility in Floyd Bennet Field this morning. My heart goes out to him and his family. It just shows that cops are human with feelings and regrets. So sad.

This goes to show you that cops are people too and yes they make mistakes. The guilt and pressure on this man was obviously too much to handle.

This is really sad and being a cops wife and having a lot of cops in my family, I completley agree 100% that they like us are human too. It's just so sad that it ended this way for this one...

I just read that too.
People don't realize the responsiblity that job entails- you have people's lives in your hands. Every decision you make can affect others lives as well as your own.
They truly are grossly underpaid considering the amount of responsiblity they have...

Disclaimer/I know the below will envoke drama, but it is not the intention just another point of view
Why do you have to say cops are human too 3 times in a paragraph? You make it sound like they are teflon and have no feelings. It bothers me because I work in EMS and spend everyday with cops and they ARE just like us. It shouldn't take a cop commiting suicide to prove that. Sorry just my pet peeve
Edited to add.....this may not be the reason he commited suicide. It may have been a part of it, but I would guess there are many many many other factors besides this. This man worked in ESU I promise this was not the worst he's seen.

Holy Crap....I know him (the police officer) I am 99% sure he has been to my uncles for family things. (my Family is from Sayville). OMG how awful.

I heard this an my heart sank. My husband knows people who knew the lieutenant, they all said he was a kindhearted person and a true gentleman.
Their job (no matter the rank) is NOT easy by any means. Esp for a person of rank, the stress is unbearable-hence the reason my DH refuses to take any promotional exams.

I think its just so terrible..its the media that show all the bad, not the good...and the job is already stressful as it is.
ITA!!! Apparently they were taking extended training on using the tasers and that is where he killed himself. It is terrible.

i think the point is that some times people forget that they are human, make mistake sand have feelings. Cops get a very bad rep sometimes and i dont think this was meant in bad way to cops rather a reminder about how great cops are and what a hard job they have. Thst was my take on it anyway.

nycchic24 and I have been fming and we understand eachother. I agree that wasn't what she ment I just think that some people need to be reminded that they do not have super powers and that they should ALWAYS be thought of as people

I read this story this morning and it breaks my heart, The fact that he thought this was his only way. Cops are human they make mistakes, no one is perfect. I wish that he had a better support system so that another life wasnt taken.
I wish that he could of talked to someone, All i think now is that 2 families lost people that they love.
