The lieutenant in the case with the man who was tasered and fell to his death, has committed suicide this morning.
Apparently, he was the one who gave the order to tase the man. Not saying I ever agreed with doing this BUT this just goes to show, cops are human too. They make mistakes. They feel. They hurt. This man shot himself at a police faciility in Floyd Bennet Field this morning. My heart goes out to him and his family. It just shows that cops are human with feelings and regrets. So sad.

Why do you have to say cops are human too 3 times in a paragraph? You make it sound like they are teflon and have no feelings. It bothers me because I work in EMS and spend everyday with cops and they ARE just like us. It shouldn't take a cop commiting suicide to prove that. Sorry just my pet peeve
Edited to add.....this may not be the reason he commited suicide. It may have been a part of it, but I would guess there are many many many other factors besides this. This man worked in ESU I promise this was not the worst he's seen.
I understand what you are saying.
I *think*, and I could be wrong, that the OP stated that and may have stated it more than once b/c so many people - maybe not her, myself or you, but SO many people do NOT think of them in a human way - they do not see them as real people. It is a shame that it is that way - it is not how I feel at all.
As per the story - that is horrible. I am just in shock - how awful.

Really sad - in a way, I hope he didn't kill himself over that incident, but had other issues going on, b/c that would be so upsetting.

Just to clarify "publicly" this was my exact point.
MANY people see cops as super heroes, machines. Why? They are human beings, both men and women who feel and hurt. My father is a retired nypd detective, my uncle a nypd sergeant and my brother in the academy now graduating in December. My brother gets on the train every day to have people call him a pig, hes been spit on and cursed at. Hes not even a cop yet, but they see him in his academy uniform and start with him. They have even gone as far to tell him, "What you gonna do? You dont even have a gun yet?" Does he show it bothers him? Of course not, but when he comes home after working his butt off every day to get on the streets, and tells me the story, I can see the hurt in his eyes.
Tangent I know..But I am just trying to show just how human cops are.

This breaks my heart. He was only 46 and had children. It is so sad that he thought this was the way to deal with it.

I dont get how a cop killing himself makes him human too, irregardless they are humans with feelings. And how do we know it all has to do with the taser incident, we dont what skeletons or if he had fits of depression. Its sad when someone takes their life, but I jsut dont see the relation. When a cop gets hurt in the line of duty or dies in the line of duty they have feelings too.
Prayer for the cop and his family and the man who died due to being tasered.
