I did because of 3 of my direct co-workers got Covid the week before Christmas. I had no symptoms but wanted peace of mind that I was not going to be putting my parents at risk when I saw them for Christmas. If that doesn't make sense to you then so be it, but it made me feel better about things. I tested negative the Tuesday before Christmas and still have not developed any symptoms and feel fine.
That's not what OP was referring to. You were legitimately exposed
And if you are exposed and a close contact you quarantine. Get tested if symptoms. You don’t get tested and go about your life because you got a negative. People don’t test positive till day 10 sometimes.
I cant quarantine unless the DOH instructs me to. I am essential and needed at work so its different rules for us so that's what I did.
You go to work but should do only that. Just because you are “essential” doesn’t give you the right not to quarantine like everyone else.
You were exposed to 3 positive people, you should go to work and only work. You should be around people for the holidays. Unless I misunderstood and you weren’t actually in close contact with the 3 positive people.
But this is the problem. Stay home if you were exposed.
I tested negative
If you are exposed and considered a close contact, regardless if you test positive or negative, you are supposed to quarantine 14 days (I believe it may be 10 now). If you are essential you go to work and only work and must wear a mask and social distance when possible.
I now understand why this isn’t going anywhere and numbers keep going up. I just want this to end and don’t understand why people can’t just stay the $@?! home if they are exposed, with the exception of essential business?!?!?! Your negative test on day 5 or 7 means absolutely nothing. What if you test positive on day 8?!
How many times do you think you need to test then? Who is paying for all these tests? We all will be when our rates go up.
You don’t test unless symptoms. Quarantine. That was the entire reason for this post.
ITA but that is not what is happening and what the commercials are telling people to do.

Trust me, I get this 100% . . . But it's not following guidelines. A test doesn't actually make it safe to return to work.
Regarding first responders and "essential workers" not having to do the full quarantine, the exception that you can return to work is because you're NEEDED to keep people alive or provide an imperative service. This doesn't mean you can go about your business as you want, you don't NEED to go to the grocery store or visit family.
There is no "test out of quarantining", as much as it sucks!
But they have to go to work because they need to feed and support their families. Sorry their life is just as important, even if they aren’t saving lives. That is the point people are missing. Also many companies are making people go in once they test negative. People have to go to work.
If a doctor can go back to treating patients then blue collared workers should be allowed to go to work and support their families after a negative test. One persons livelihood isn’t more important than another.
I feel for the people suffering financially from this, trust me! But the physician isn't allowed to work so she can earn a paycheck, it's because she is vital to keeping people alive.
I would imagine these employers of non essential employees should be held liable if they're causing the spread of disease by requiring people to return before properly quarantining!

Yes, people do this. It's quick, simple and easy. I can't tell you how many test I have had.

I thinks it’s because of all the push to get tested. Everywhere u turn all u hear is get tested, get tested, get tested. Forget about symptoms...most important thing is...get tested. Don’t agree with this but that’s pretty much all u hear.
Yes. It's like the new thing to do....need it or not
Yep just like social media. Got to do what everyone else is doing to feel included and popular. This is not something you need to follow the crowd. When was the last time you went to the doctor to check to see if you were sick or has cancer or anything else you had no symptoms of? Probably never and there is no proof that if you are asymptomatic you can spread the virus.
Uh every year at my complete physical and mammogram/sonogram and soon with a Colonoscopy when I hit the appropriate age.

Yea I can see at a yearly physical. Not running to check for any other time. But then there are those hypochondriacs who run to doctors for everything. Ones who also need to get antibiotics constantly. I am in the don’t go to the doctor unless I am dying (literally).

What a completely dumb a$$ comment. Outside of physicals, depending on your age and family history, there are many screenings that are required throughout the year. It has NOTHING to do with being a hypochondriac. You say the stupidest things on here.

Many run to the doctor every time they sneeze and I had a neighbor who would call for an ambulance for everything including toothaches. You don’t go to the doctor when you are feeling well on a regular day (not for screenings and such) so there is no reason to go for a Covid test if you have not been exposed or feel sick.

Quoting is too long.
VB........... Again, not what I'm talking about. When you feel cornered you like to deflect and change the topic. I'm taking issue with your comment that there is no reason to see a dr outside of a physical. You are WRONG and the comment was ridiculous.
ETA - I have gone to the dr SYMPTOM FREE to have cancer screenings, thyroid checks, etc simply to have a baseline measurement done due to my family history. People see the dr for a multitude of reasons, not just obvious illness with symptoms.

And again there are many who see doctors for reasons unneeded. I was not talking about things that are needed and required for many. No one should be running to a doctor for a strep test if they have no symptoms and don’t feel well. Same as Covid unless you have been in contact with someone sick.

That’s not how the world works. There are many jobs where if You don’t go to work, the next person will replace you. It’s not so black and white. Remember before March when people didn’t realize how vital grocery clerks were? They aren’t technically saving lives.
And not every medical staff has to go back to work before quarantine and some do go back for a paycheck. They are put in that essential bucket and it’s ok. I’m fine with that but I believe it goes the same for other industries as well. So we can agree to disagree.

Covid testing and no symptoms?
My mom was exposed on Christmas so she went for a test. She was beside herself and nervous because my dad, who wasn’t exposed, is on immunosuppressants and had just had emergency surgery. She had a hard time finding a testing place but eventually got an appointment. She has remained in quarantine though even with a negative test.
I have never had an issue getting a test as I live close to a former red zone.

There is no way to quarantine every single time you are exposed. Especially if you are an essential worker. You get tested and watch for symptoms. Then retest at the end of the 10 days. In the meantime you only do necessary things - work and essential shopping, etc. That’s what every city and state worker I know has to do.

Thank you for speaking up to refute that. There is a scary amount of bad medical advice, opinions, and informaton on here from people who are not at all equipped to give it. Based on feelings and faulty logic. The kind of information flushed into society by bots created to sow division and sabotage our society.

That's not what OP was referring to. You were legitimately exposed
And if you are exposed and a close contact you quarantine. Get tested if symptoms. You don’t get tested and go about your life because you got a negative. People don’t test positive till day 10 sometimes.
There is no way to quarantine every single time you are exposed. Especially if you are an essential worker. You get tested and watch for symptoms. Then retest at the end of the 10 days. In the meantime you only do necessary things - work and essential shopping, etc. That’s what every city and state worker I know has to do.
This is what my essential/front line friends do as well. but there are so many people out there with exposures, and even sometimes the beginnings of symptoms, who are out and about. Everywhere. Rationalizing what they're doing. And perpetuating this horrible crisis and its tragic effects.

Re: Covid testing and no symptoms?
In other news, we just got a call that my father in law now has Covid for the THIRD, count it, THIRD time. I am not sure what this means for how a vaccine will save us if you can get the damn thing 3 times in less than a year. Unbelievable

I did because of 3 of my direct co-workers got Covid the week before Christmas. If that doesn't make sense to you then so be it, but it made me feel better about things. I tested negative the Tuesday before Christmas and still have not developed any symptoms and feel fine.

People are assholes. I couldn’t tell you how many people I see on SM talking about “oh, I just have a cold, or my kid only had a fever 2 days, I didn’t even bother bringing him to be tested bc we’d all have to go to the dr”
I hate everyone lol
