In other news, we just got a call that my father in law now has Covid for the THIRD, count it, THIRD time. I am not sure what this means for how a vaccine will save us if you can get the damn thing 3 times in less than a year. Unbelievable
How is he doing? This guy needs to be studied! That’s so crazy. How does he keep getting exposed so much in a care facility?

He's symptom free. I really don't understand it. Don't masks work? Aren't Healthcare workers masked? No visiting has been allowed at all. Unless these tests are wrong. I've been hearing of some false positives these days. Something has to be rotten in the state of Denmark. Because this is ridiculous. My husband said to the doctor who called...are you aware this is THE THIRD TIME he has had this??? The doctor didn't know what to say.

I did because of 3 of my direct co-workers got Covid the week before Christmas. I had no symptoms but wanted peace of mind that I was not going to be putting my parents at risk when I saw them for Christmas. If that doesn't make sense to you then so be it, but it made me feel better about things. I tested negative the Tuesday before Christmas and still have not developed any symptoms and feel fine.
That's not what OP was referring to. You were legitimately exposed
And if you are exposed and a close contact you quarantine. Get tested if symptoms. You don’t get tested and go about your life because you got a negative. People don’t test positive till day 10 sometimes.
There is no way to quarantine every single time you are exposed. Especially if you are an essential worker. You get tested and watch for symptoms. Then retest at the end of the 10 days. In the meantime you only do necessary things - work and essential shopping, etc. That’s what every city and state worker I know has to do.
This is what my essential/front line friends do as well. but there are so many people out there with exposures, and even sometimes the beginnings of symptoms, who are out and about. Everywhere. Rationalizing what they're doing. And perpetuating this horrible crisis and its tragic effects.
People are assholes. I couldn’t tell you how many people I see on SM talking about “oh, I just have a cold, or my kid only had a fever 2 days, I didn’t even bother bringing him to be tested bc we’d all have to go to the dr”
I hate everyone lol
I share your hatred. I was on line at Old Navy(buying the clearance face masks for my kids) and the lady in front of me was talking on her cell about how sick she is with fevers and pneumonia and needs to pick up strong antibiotics on her way home. So good chance she has Covid(whether she tested positive or not) and her Dr is treating for bacterial pneumonia just in case. She was buying some clothes, must have been an emergency ??.

Per the doctor who called us from the nursing home he's in...no symptoms. He was tested because he had a procedure scheduled for next week at the hospital. The first time he had it in the spring he had cold symptoms. Second time in the summer, no symptoms. Now, no symptoms. I don't even know if this postive is a false positive . It just seems really odd.

Hmm yeah something sounds off. Sad as if he really is not positive that positive went though like that and that is why the numbers are so high.

Thanks! I swear if all these positive tests are correct they need to study him for medical journals! They said they will keep a close eye on his oxygen levels but so far he's asymptomatic, thankfully.

If she’s indeed using antibiotics, it sounds she had a bacterial pneumonia. I wonder if she actually finished all her prescribed antibiotics? Sometimes people don’t finish them and stop taking them once they start feeling better, the risk with that is that the bacteria that antibiotic was fighting against might become resistant to that specific kind of antibiotic and as result that person might need a different type of antibiotic or a stronger dose.

They totally should! LOL Maybe his response to COVID holds some clues.
I'm glad he's hanging in there, sending positive vibes that he continues to be asymptomatic and recovers quickly.

My father is essential and is now testing every few days - one - to to safe to his coworkers, two- to be safe with my mother. They are 77 years old.
My dad works in cremation and if he doesn’t work the bodies stack up. Sorry if some think that’s graphic but it’s the reality of what’s out there.
They are telling people to test regularly so that people will know they have it and stop the spread. Testing often catches all the people that either do not have symptoms or have minor symptoms that would not scream Covid.
This.
I guess I’ll stop getting tested at my gyno regularly because I’m not showing symptoms.

Quoting is too long.
VB........... Again, not what I'm talking about. When you feel cornered you like to deflect and change the topic. I'm taking issue with your comment that there is no reason to see a dr outside of a physical. You are WRONG and the comment was ridiculous.
ETA - I have gone to the dr SYMPTOM FREE to have cancer screenings, thyroid checks, etc simply to have a baseline measurement done due to my family history. People see the dr for a multitude of reasons, not just obvious illness with symptoms.
Thank you for speaking up to refute that. There is a scary amount of bad medical advice, opinions, and informaton on here from people who are not at all equipped to give it. Based on feelings and faulty logic. The kind of information flushed into society by bots created to sow division and sabotage our society.
https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/05/20/859814085/researchers-nearly-half-of-accounts-tweeting-about-coronavirus-are-likely-bots
Seriously. Medical disclaimers will be needed soon, lol.

That’s insane. Is he testing negative after the positives? In some instances, people are taking a long time to fully clear the virus (but not shedding virus, so not contagious), particularly the elderly. Though, positive since spring seems extreme.
I’d make sure this isn’t a reporting error and that his test wasn’t mixed up with someone else’s. Poor guy.

Yeah I agree as while Covid is real, his case is so odd. I know a bunch of people who have gotten positives and told oops no it is negative. Not sure if the rapid testing is just not accurate enough. Hopefully he feels fine otherwise. Wonder how many others are like this though and keep getting tested and the numbers add up as they say they are positive but they are not sick.

Yes he has had negative tests in between because he is constantly in and our of the hospital due to unrelated issues. So every time he gets sent to the hospital he gets tested. Always negative. I find it odd for sure as he has been asymptomatic 2 out of the 3 times he tested positive. The first time he tested positive he had mild symptoms. It's all mind boggling!

2 of them sound like false positives. Are these rapid tests? If so I would start demanding the regular test, since this is delaying his procedures and medical care.

Good question. I don't think DH asked. When he speaks to the doctor next i will have him ask. Also everytime he supposedly tests positive they have to move him out of his room to the Covid unit and they lost his cell phone in the last move. It's just more upheaval for him getting moved around constantly .
