Covid vaccine - pediatric trials
I'm not going to do it but honestly I'm not going to sit here and judge anyone who would. Maybe someone participating in the trial has done their research about what's in the vaccine and are comfortable having their kids take it. My kids have never had a reaction to any vaccine so in the future I might if it means they could avoid death by getting the vaccine...

ITA.
When I hear about the kids' trials I figure a lot of the parents might have made the difficult decision based on a comorbidity - asthma, a heart condition, etc.
We all agree that remote sucks for 99.9% of children, right? So I can see a parent of a child with, for argument's sake, terrible asthma thinking that the risks are worth the rewards to get a vaccine into them ASAP to protect them and maybe get them back into their school building.
Also, it's an mRNA vaccine...not the kind where they put the actual virus into you. But we've been over that already.

Covid vaccine - pediatric trials
I suspect many of the participants are the children of scientists, researchers and MDs. The more familiar someone is with the science, the less scary it is.

This. I saw a news piece on this and almost all the children in the 12-18 group were children with STEM parents.

Covid vaccine - pediatric trials
I wouldn’t put my kid in a trial, but how do we ever know something is safe for children unless it is tested on children? There must be people willing to do it.

I wouldn't either, but I won't judge those who would.

I wouldn’t either but like someone else said it’s because I don’t understand it enough. I’d imagine these drs and scientists understand it and are not afraid of what it will do to their kids. Also, when I heard it was starting my first thought was that I was grateful for these people that said yes.

I saw something about that too and found it so reassuring.

Covid vaccine - pediatric trials
I’m on the fence. I work in a hospital and fully support science. I myself got the vaccine within days if first availability. We vaccine our kids, newborns for that matter so at some point everything we give our babies was given as a trial in a newborn to establish safety and efficacy. If we don’t have people in trials we don’t have vaccines. My children are 4, if they were older I would absolutely consider it with their consent. The only reason I’m on the fence at this point is I feel more long term data is needed in adults but I get that time isn’t on our side with this. If the vaccine is successful for pediatrics in clinical trials which will take some time to study, I have no problem giving it as soon as it’s available. By then we will have more data on efficacy long term in adults

I don't know any child, at any age, who would consent to being on a study that involved getting a shot. My daughter even now that she is older acts like the world is ending when the doctor says it's time for a vaccine at her well visit. That would have to be some mature kid. Or some huge bribe offered to them.

Yeah I have a 13 year old. I would never let him make a decision like this. I don't think I would let them make that type of decision until they are 18 or older.

That’s a hard pass for me. I wouldn’t even give my child the vaccine.
