cramping/lower back pain at 23 weeks - UPDATED
I was out at the mall tonight with my mother and all of a sudden I started to get period-like cramps (not strong cramps, they were pretty light but noticeable). A few seconds later, I started getting pain in my lower back. It was consistent and got worse very quickly. I started getting hot and a little light-headed (possibly because I got nervous though). We sat down and it went away for the most part, but when we got back up again to start walking again, the lower back pain started up again.
I'm a little worried this could be preterm labor or something. I havent called the doctor yet, I'm NOT spotting or anything, I drank some water and had some food. For the most part, the cramps are gone and the back pain isnt really there anymore, but I'm still worried.
Anyone experience this or know what it could be? Any advice?
Update: Thanks to everyone who responded last night. I felt much better today and I think I was dehydrated and that caused the cramping and back pain. I made sure to hydrate myself better today and have felt great all day.
I'll be continuing to keep an eye on how I'm feeling for the next few days and if I do notice pain or cramping like this again, I'll be calling my doctor immediately. Luckily, I have an appointment in a few days, so I'll mention it to her then as well.

could be braxton hicks contractions. I started it around 22 weeks. It's not steady pain and it's not like you can time how far apart they are so it's probably not pre-term labor. Braxton hicks are more irregular and depending on the way you experience them you could just feel the pain when you do certain activities. Hope it goes away soon.

I was crampy around 27 weeks or so--when I called my doc he sent me to the hospital to be monitored--turned out we were fine-prob just dehydrated--but it made me feel better to know that it wasn't pre-term labor!!! I am 32 weeks now and still get crampy--if it persists call ur doctor to rest ur head--Good LUck!!!

I've been getting BH since 14 weeks, but they dont feel anything like this. The BH I've been getting arent painful, its just a tightening in my abdomen and my belly gets hard...but its not accompanied by any pain or cramping. This leads me to believe that what I felt tonight wasnt braxton hicks. I could totally be wrong and maybe it is and they're just getting more intense

I think if it happens again, you should call the doctor. It can't hurt. I always call the doctor when I am unsure.

ITA.You shouldnt diagnose yourself, if you are experience any type of pain that causes u to think about it. Call the doctor, pre term labor starts off mild but can get worse, and BH can turn into regular contractions.

i totally agree. you can't be too careful about this stuff. i would get checked out just in case.
although i've had gas pain that has come on just like this and gone away (even if i don't go to the bathroom). so it could actually be something like that...
