crate training a puppy ???
3 days ago we got a 3 month old puppy the crate we have him in is big so we have to keep it in 1 spot (but we have a didvider set up to make it small) anyway we have him in the crate in our room for 3 hour time periods for housebreaking purposes while we are home (someone is always always home) the reason hes in our room being to confine him for accidents and also cause i have a 3 year old, 2 year old and 3 month old and i dont want them terrorizing him all day. my question is do i make a seperate little spot in the kitchen to confine him in or leave him in the bedroom? do i interchange his confinement place or leave him in one. he has intervals when he has free play time in the kitchen. i am only looking to crate him this long until he gets the potty thing under control a little better. so confused

Is what you are currently doing working? If so i would leave it then. If he is in the kitchen he might bark and cry a lot because he sees you. if the crate training is working the way you are doing it now, i would leave it. I;m sure he'll be potty trained in no time. Good luck!

I was always told (and read) that your crate should be in a location where there are a lot of people around - living room or kitchen. If they're brought to a location where there is no one they'll think they are being bad.

Re: crate training a puppy ???
we kept our crate in the kitchen - the idea is to slowly grow their space because they keep their space clean - as i trusted him more -i gated the kitchen to give him more room
if you can put the crate in the kitchen where you are - they should be used to being in there around people - also it could be confusing to a dog having two spots
also don't forget tot ake your dog in each room -after they have gone out to pee because a room they don't go in they will think of as not part of their living space and the pee or poop in that room
also don't be so quick to get rid of the crate - because dogs can be destructive - chewing on furniture when you are not home - it is their home and their safe place - crate training is important if you ever want to take them to the groomer or if they have to spend the night at the vet - you don't want your dog to have anxiety about a crate which can happen if they are not trained with one

I agree withthis.. I put the crate near the door that I go in and out of.. My dog loves her crate and stays in it with the door open now.. As soon as I leave the house she goes right in on her own so when I come home she is right there.. I think thats why she loves it so much. Its HER safe place.. DO NOT get rid of it EVER. I know its an eye sore but its so worth it..
Are you training her to go on wee wee pads or outside? I went right outside with her no wee wee pads.. and I would be doing the same with three little kids who could get a hold on them and play with them.
I want to say you are really an amazing person to be handleing 3 children and a puppy.. I have to gice you credit. Good for you!! You are giving your family the best gift ever.. Keep up the good work.. and good luck..
