Crayons and non-toxic paint for a one year old

I have been reading up on activities to do with a one year old and many suggest getting them to start coloring or using non-toxic paint with a wide brush.

Has anyone done this with a one year old? If so, where do you get the supplies?

Thanks!

I bought DD Crayola Color Wonder markers. They only work on color wonder paper - but IMHO, it's worth the extra $$ for the special paper, so she doesn't draw all over the table. After @ 3 months of that I let her try a crayon but she ate it.

why don't u make edible paint like pudding paint or edible play dough and things like that. Honestly, I think a 12 month old will just eat crayons.

I think all crayola is non-toxic. We bought crayons, the markers that only color on certain paper, and finger paint.

The Crayolas are non-toxic, but most will try to eat them at that age--I was more concerned about DS choking on them than the toxicity at that point. Pudding is good though, or even stage 3 baby food in bright colors.

Crayola makes these Crayon buddies too, or something like that. They are round animals that are easier to hold in their hand, though I think the age on those is 18 months.

You can try the crayons though and see what happens.

Where do you find these supplies?

Toys R Us, Michaels, AC Moore, Target, Wal-Mart - basically everywhere. You can even find Crayola products in CVS and the supermarket.
