Creative moms or Party Planning Enthusiasts come on in
I'm still a little on the fence about a theme vs. no theme for DD's 1st bday but I'm leaning towards trying to do a theme and I'm looking for ideas. Subject ideas, not characters (ie Disney, Sesame Street, etc.) b/c she's not old enough to be into that stuff yet. And ideas appropriate for a girl's party. I was thinking about an island/luau kind of theme, but I'm not 100% about it for two reasons; (1) is it too mature for a 1st bday and (2) b/c her birthday is Memorial Day and though it will be nice out I'm not sure it's "hot" yet so I don't know if it's far enough into the summer for the theme to really fit the weather. Thanks for your input.

How about a carnival themed party? My friend did that, and it was really cute, the invites came in a popcorn box with air popped popcorn in the box, (yes she mailed them), she had a clown, ... maybe a puppet show instead?... and decorated with a carnival theme- streamers and all so it looked like it was under a tent, but it was just stremmers from one side of the room to the other. HTH. I like the idea of a theme, the luau idea is cute too. HTH

I love that. I saw that idea on the Today Show a while back and I had it in the back of my mind for when she's a little older, but definitely love it.

Why do you feel that you need to have a theme? Why not just have an ELLIE IS TURNING 1 YEARS OLD party! We threw a HUGE party and we didn't have a theme...didn't need one.

Re: Creative moms or Party Planning Enthusiasts come on in
I am a party theme type of gal (hence my favor/ invitation/ decoration business ).
For my son's first birthday I had a luau in my backyard. I printed his picture and made Hawaiian tshirts out of construction paper. I put his picture on the front wearing a Hawaiian shirt. It was so cute. For favors, I made palm tree magnets for the adults and for the kids, I personalized beach totes, and put sunglasses, personalized sun visors, fish tattoos, bubbles, fish squirters, etc. It was really cute.
For a girl, you can do sooooo many things. You said it was Memorial Day weekend, so you can do a patriotic theme. (Oriental trading has a ton of stuff).
You can do a princess theme, a circus/ carnival theme, butterflies, underwater theme, zoo animals/ safari...the world is your oyster.
If you need favors, decorations, invites...feel free to send me an FM. I have made party favors for many now on LIF!

Thats what we are going to do for DS 1st b-day,,,we are the 2nd to last house on a cul-de- sac so it would be perfect for us to have the animals (petting zoo) and some other vendor-type things....
I also love the Luau idea...
