crocs as a first walking shoe?

Whats your opinion? DS is 12 almost 13 months and just started walking this month.

They just look so easy ... and I just got myself a pair of croc flats and I'm in love.

I wouldn't. I think it is recommended to get a very supportive shoe for the first walker. I always went to Stride Rite. My older DD started walking in the fall, so I got the traditional walker shoe. My younger DD was in the spring, so she got the sandal.

I dont let my son wear crocks at all, they have no support, cushion etc, I think its a bad idea...

Re: crocs as a first walking shoe?

i def. would not for a first pair of shoes. they dont have the correct support like the previous posters stated.
DD does own crocs now but she only wears them once in awhile.

I was considering getting a pair for DS for this summer. He started walking in March so I'm thinking by June/July/August he might be a bit more steady on his feet.

That said, I'm heading out today to Stride Rite to buy his first pair of walking shoes. I noticed with the toddler shoes he has, he doesn't walk "naturally" so I'm going to get those.

agreed! my son are over 3yo and I know I dont let him wear crocs. They have no support, they are bad IMO for a foot that is still developing, and even worse IMO for an uneasy walker.
DS got 1 pair of croc like sandals last year and the only time I use them is when we are at the pool.

eta:L for an early walker you really need a well fitting shoe too...crocs are definatly not that.

Re: crocs as a first walking shoe?

I wouldn't. Not nearly enough support for a new walker.

Re: crocs as a first walking shoe?

They are actually banned at my school. The children in my class (PK) were constantly tripping & there is no support and they tend to come out of them.

I'd get a pair of shoes with a lot of support; especially for a first shoe.

Cailen is 4 and I still would not let him wear crocs - I feel they have no support and he is so active. He needs a sneaker. He always did!

Re: crocs as a first walking shoe?

no, definitely not.

he should already be in a steady walking shoe if he's been walking for a month!!

get him a pair of stride rite shoes & quick!

I wouldn't, and not because of the lack of support (since barefoot is best and there is no support there). I constantly see kids tripping in those things, they are shaped too weird.

Re: crocs as a first walking shoe?

I wouldn't. DD is 5 and she just got her first pair of crocs and she is only allowed to wear them in the garden not when we are out and about - not enough support plus they fit strange - big!

Re: crocs as a first walking shoe?

When you go to stride rite, they will tell you exactly what he should be in, and measure him. There are really cute styles to choose from...some are a bit expensive, but worth it. DS's first pair lasted him almost 5 months.
