I think a full sized bed is better.

My son's crib converted to a toddler bed and then converts to a full-sized bed. He just turned 3 and is currently still in the toddler bed, only because we haven't had time to rearrange the furniture to acccommodate the bigger bed (where I think he will be more comfortable and hopefully stop waking in the middle of the night and coming into our room!).

But with a full-sized bed, he can stay in it til he goes to college -- he won't outgrow it. And as others have said, if he is sick or wants me to lie down with him, there's plenty of room.

We have a finished basement which is my son's play room and tv area, and he also plays a lot in our den and yard, if not in the play room. So he doesn't need a lot of floor space in his bedroom.

I have a full size because that is what my sons crib turned into. I would prefer a twin for more play space. However, I also have company come to stay with me several times a year, so I like to have bigger beds for them to stay in. That is really the main reason I stick with the full size.

Great point. I do have a designated guest room though. Also I didnt mention if I got a twin, I would also be getting a trundle in case DD has a cousin or friend stay over. So her room would essentially have room for 2 people to sleep anyway.
