crown molding shelf question....updated with another question

for those of you who have them, do you have them over anything? I was just thinking of doing something like this:
It doesn't look like there's anything (table, etc.) under these shelves. Not sure where I got this pic. It could have been from here :) I come here a lot. You girls have the best ideas!





Do the top two look like shelves or ledges? My DH says ledges but on the PB website, there is no "modern ledge". Also, we're buying the crown molding shelves and trying to do the same idea, and of course, PB is out of the 3 ft shelf. I'll have to wait for mid march

you either got the pic from Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel or from me. I think I have it in my inspiration pics.

I think you can completely put these shelves up with nothing under them if you hang them lower like they have them. I have some picture ledges and I have a sofa table under them.

I had those exact PB shelves in my own apt and had them over our couch.

I think the two top shelves are picture ledges and not just shelves.
