Crown Molding Question - UPDATED w/Pics

In the house we are in the middle of buying, they have cathedral ceilings in the kitchen & dining room only, but the living room is right there, but regular ceiling. The house is a hi-ranch, so you have that L-shaped area going on. We love crown molding, but don't know if it's going to look ok. Where would you put the molding and where wouldn't you? Can you just put the molding on the straight walls and not on the cathedral part? Would it look funny? If anyone has any pics, that would be great. Thanks! Let me try to find the pics I have.

Pics of kitchen/dining room in album.

I would honestly go on MLS and look for pics of high ranches. You may get ideas from there. Its hard to say how it would look. Do you have pics of the cathedral?

I have a high ranch but I do not have Cathedral Ceilings. I would think that the Crown would look weird on the Cathedral Ceilings, but I base that on I have never seen it before.

hmmm, I'm really not sure how it would look. I don't know if I've ever seen crown molding on a cathedral. Maybe I'm having a brain fart or something.

i think it would look odd if it followed the ceiling line. i've never seen that either. my friend's mother just had something done in her house and it looks great. the crown molding doesn't follow the ceiling line when it gets to the cathedral part, it continues in a straight line. then they have lighting in the top of the molding that shines up. i don't know if my description makes any sense. i wish i had a picture to show you.

Or you can do it straight a few inches down like in this picture.
