Re: Cute Holiday family Tradition wanted to share
DH and I do something similar. Each year, we buy the Swarovsky crystal ornament. When we put each of them on the tree, we talk about our favorite memories and special events that occurred the year of the one we are hanging at the time.

That is really sweet, & it is great that the kids appreciate it, but I just wanted to say, they waaaay down the road, when they get married & you give them their 20 something ornaments, don't be offended if your DIL moves some of them to the back of the tree, b/c while the tradition is sweet, if they live in an apartment & have a super tiny tree, the childhood collection may take up all of the space & not leave any room for him to start a new collection with his wife or for her to put any of her things.
Not that I would know anything about that. . .
I've got to say, the same thing happened to us. In theory it's really nice to have room for all 25 ornaments from him growing up, and 25 from me growing up, but that leaves absolutely no room for "our" ornaments, and the ones we'll collect for our kids!

Re: Cute Holiday family Tradition wanted to share
My parents did this for my brother and I while we were growing up. When I moved out, my parents gave me all of my ornaments. I actually cried putting them on the tree my first Christmas out of my parents house. It's a great tradition, and I love putting them on my tree to this day!

Re: Cute Holiday family Tradition wanted to share
I have done this for many, many years now. Love this tradition. My almost 12 yr old son already asked me if I got "his"ornament for this year..its always a secret and I reveal the special ornament on Christmas Eve. So even a pre-teen boy can get excited over something like this.
As for my DH, I have gotten him a special heart ornament for every year we've been together. I figure once the kids are grown and take "their" ornaments, we'll be left with a tree full of hearts to show our love.

It is a fabulous idea! My parents did that for my siblings and I. I love going through all the memories when I put them on the tree. I've always cherished my ornaments.
I do the same for DD. This year, she's getting this one because she loves to draw. I was all teary-eyed paying for it at Hallmark thinking about her collection in 25 years.
OMG I love this ornament!!!!! it is soooo cute

To Funny and I have actually thought about that but... I figured they can put them on a mantle or just look at them and remember there childhood!!!
But it could go the other way where they don't ever leave home and at 40 they are like hey ma where's myt ornament
