Dance for "almost" 3 year old?
DD will be 3 at the end of March. Her Grandmother gave her a check that is good for gymnastics and dance lessons. It more than covers her gymnastics, and I'd like to see if I can enroll her in dance too - but is she too young still? Any BTDT moms?
Thanks!

Re: Dance for "almost" 3 year old?
DD started when she was 3, there are others in her class who started at 2 so I think it is fine.

I nanny a child who started dance (ballet/tap) at 3.... Its more about following directions than the actual steps ... They have fun jumping around so thats all that matters!

G started dance at 2 and had her first recital when she was 4. It was adorable and worth every penny!

My DD will be 3 in a few weeks and we started her in dance this past September. She'll have a recital in June... she really likes it!

Re: Dance for "almost" 3 year old?
Here is my opinion, as a dance teacher. The answer kind of depends on how long the class is and what you expect her to get out of it. I start my preschool classes at 3yrs old and I mix my 3 and 4yr olds. I find that the younger kids emulate the older ones and the older ones like being the "role models." As far as what they get out of it, my 3yr olds get mainly enjoyment and excersise. My 4yr olds get that plus more, in terms of balance and body cotrol, as well as working on their memory. The 3 year olds are really just copying, while the 4 year olds retain more. When they are younger then 3, it is more of creative moevment for them. Too much structure is usually more then they can handle.

Re: Dance for "almost" 3 year old?
We just started DD at a free dance school in Centerport. She will be 3 next month. She's only gone for one class because of the holidays but she enjoyed herself. It really seemed to be more about moving and listening than actual dance movements. She had a ball though and can't wait to go back in a couple of weeks.
