Dark Circles Under Infant's Eyes
My son is almost 6 months old and within the past couple of days DH and I have noticed that below our DS' eyes there is a little bit of dark/purplish circles. When I looked up online the causes it said it could be linked to early signs of asthma, a reaction to food (he is eating fruits and veggies mixed with oatmeal for almost 2 months now) or it could be an eczema flair up (which he does have some eczema). Aside from this he is his usual happy self, smiling, laughing, playing, jumping, rolling, etc....
Does anyone know anything about this?

Both of my dc have this. I never gave much thought to it b/c my dh and his whoever family have it. Unfortunately for my kids, they've inherited my fair skin so the dark circles are even more pronounced.

I don't know if this is really true - or if it is, if it applies to babies - but I saw on Dr. Oz that, for adults, dark circles under eyes has more to do with laying too flat (without enough pillows propping you up) than anything else.
Does he sleep flat? Maybe you can try elevating his mattress by putting a few books under the end by his head?

Re: Dark Circles Under Infant's Eyes
DD has purplish circles under her eyes whenever she is tired...to this day at almost 4 its a dead give away. that being said she had a bad reaction to squash/carrots when she was about 6 months old and was pretty sick. she had to go off all solids and only formula for a week to recover. she also had a lot of diahrea at that point too and was dehydrated.
take a look at what you are feeding and see if there is anything new if not talk to your doc.

They are sometimes called allergy shiners! DS has them. Started when he was a newborn... Now he gets them when he has had something with soy in it..

Re: Dark Circles Under Infant's Eyes
I did read about the "shiners". I'm going to bring him to the dr tomorrow so we'll see what he says. Thanks so much for the feedback. I really appreciate it!
