Daycare and a rotating schedule- anyone have experience with this??????
My husband is NYPD and currently has steady days off. Troy goes to Kiddie Academy and their schedule is 9 hour time frame per day. DH drops Troy off at daycare and I pick him up and this keeps us in our 9 hour time frame.
DH's schedule may be changing and he'll have rotating days off meaning there are days that I would need to drop off and pick up Troy, and we'd go over our 9 hour time frame.
Has/Does anyone have experience with a daycare and rotating schedule??? I am SO nervous that we'll have to pay extra money for this. As it stands now if Troy is there over his 9 hour time frame we're charged $30.
I LOVE this daycare and do not want to change to one closer to my job. We are thinking of asking MIL to pick Troy up on those late days, but it would rotate and I'm afraid she'll have conflicts.
This is not a sure thing, but is a very good possibility and I want to keep my options open. It could take effect in the end of Feb.
TIA

Re: Daycare and a rotating schedule- anyone have experience with this??????
Would DH still be on days if this happened?
We had similar things happen and that is why Chris is on nights and Christopher is home with him. I couldn't justify paying for someone to watch him for possibly 2 days a week.
The rotating schedule is tough, I feel your pain (which you know )

My DH has a rotating schedule so I unfortunately have to just suck it up and pay for a full month of daycare - even though some wks DS goes as little as 2 days.

No, I wish! He would work 4 days and be off 2. Day 1 and 2 he would work 4pm - 1am. Day 3 and 4 he would work 8am - 4pm. BUT, because we live in Riverhead and he still works in Queens, he would no come home between days 2 and 3.

Re: Daycare and a rotating schedule- anyone have experience with this??????
I can totally relate. My husband is also NYPD and currently has steady days, but the way the NYPD is you really never know...they can turn around and change hours/days off on a dime.
When he used to have a rotating schedule, we had a woman who babysat out of her house and she was okay with it (her husband was also a cop). in the end, it balances out for the babysitter b/c one week it may be only 2 days, but then some weeks it will be 5. I'm not sure if the daycare facilities would be as accomodating.
Good luck!

I can relate, but luckily my DH's family watches our son when we're both working.
Is there a family member or friend who can pick up dc?
*Just reread your post. I'm sure you're MIL wouldn't mind doing it and hey... even if she has conflicts sometimes... at least you won't have to pay extra all the time, KWIM?

Every Daycare I have researched has an additional 'fee' for going over your set/paid hours .......

Re: Daycare and a rotating schedule- anyone have experience with this??????
Our daycare has an additional fee for going over the set hours. However, they have informally allowed me to go over. There a lot of days when my DS is there for 3-4 hours less than the amount of time we pay for. The written rules don't really allow any compensation for that but they have done me a huge favor on days when I needed extra hours. We clear it ahead of time and we also let them know in advance when we will not need our full number of hours. So, we do our part to help them plan for staffing. I'm sure that my schedule is still not easy on them but they work with me.

I can relate to your problem too. We both have rotating schedules. We ended up having to work opposite schedules and rotate around each other.
Daycare is definately more set for a 'normal' workday and most people I questioned told me it was best to find a nanny, which we couldn't afford.
