daycare for your kids

not sure where to put this. if you are a teacher and you have your own kids sent to daycare, do you pay for only the days you send your kids? in other words, would you have to pay for like feb break even though your off and wouldnt send your kids? or any other random days off like today?

Yes.

A lot of teachers use a center in a home for this reason. My cousin found a woman who only watched teachers' kids and followed the academic schedule.

Some centers will let you drop the summer months and re-enroll in Sept but I found it isn't much cheaper. My old center allowed us to do this but instead of paying for 10 months at the 12 month rate, the monthly rate was increased to reflect 11 monthsChat Icon

For DD's pre-school, which is in a place... we pay monthly tuition no matter what... (however the school does follow a school schedule, so usually when we have off, she does too)

for the babysitter where we sent DD, and now DS, she babysits in her home, and we pay her cash, if the kids don't go we don't pay...

I pay a daily rate. This helps immensely as i Never have to pay during school holidays or during the long Breaks. I also do not have to pay when they are sick or during the summer. That said though, the center is a montessori school (not a chain like tutor time) and the owner/director is my SIL's mom, so i don't know if she does this just for me or if this is her typical practice.

Re: daycare for your kids

I pay a monthly tuition. I can send them in on any break I have. There isn't a different option. It is fine for me because sometimes it is nice to send them in and run errands without dragging two kids around.

The one my friend sends her kids to has a "teacher" rate and she cannot send them when she is off.

It depends where you go. I get a teacher rate, which means you will not send your children when you have off, even though the daycare is still open.

We have had DS at two different centers and we have paid both weekly regardless of days we don't send DS. As for the summer, one let us keep our spot without paying, the other requires we keep him enrolled (or pay for) 2 days a week to hold his spot.

My son goes to a center that is also in the boundaries of the school district I work in. They cater to the school district, I get 10% off tuition, I get two weeks free that I can choose to use when I want to-so we pick the Christmas week and the February break. Then we can stop for the summer and they will hold our spot for the fall. We do have to pay for the days that we keep him home or when he is sick, but I can understand that, they have a full staff to pay. We have been very happy there!

Re: daycare for your kids

DS goes to a nursery school at a temple this year. They follow the school calendar so they are typically closed the same days we are although they do have "mini-camps" during Christmas break, Spring break, etc that people can pay extra for. We pay a monthly tuition, so we still pay if he's sick or if it's a Jewish Holiday that the school is closed for but we still need to work (and now find childcare for DS.) I get a 10% discount on tuition because I'm a teacher in the county.

Re: daycare for your kids

DS goes to a daycare program that is actually housed in my building. We pay month-by-month, so we still have to pay even if he's not in attendance due to illness or otherwise.

I get 50% off for weeks we don't go. Sometimes I pay the full rate and send her in for 1/2 day to get some things/errands done or if DSs have playdates.

My sons went to a different place and they didn't offer any discount. They asked me if they were coming in (I would bring them in from like 10-2 or I would bring one into the city while the other spent the day and then vice versa) - I told them when they don't charge me for the week, I won't bring them in. Looking back - they were so nasty about it.
