Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
Logan's room has two caregivers - they've been with him for six months now.
They always kiss and hug him goodbye and say "I love you." to him.
I thought it was sweet. But DH told me he finds it strange and doesn't really like it.
Do your daycare workers do this? And do you mind if they do?

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
I have been a sitter/Nanny for a bunch of diefferent families and have always told the children I love you.....I would spend 10 hours sometimes more with these children everyday and would love them sooo much. I feel its better than having some person not be affectionate with your child KWIM

ITA..I'm a teacher and I"ll say to my class, "I love you guys." or if a kid says, "I love you Mrs. ... I'll say I love you, too. I teach kindergarten so they are very mushy. I think it's important for children to know their caregivers love them. Why does DH have an issue with it?

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
Not all of them, but there are a few that Alex has bonded quite strongly with, who tell her that. Admittedly at first I found it a little odd, but now I find it comforting that she is with people who love her and care for her almost as much as I do

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
I don't see anything wrong with it. I LOVE the fact that my nanny loves my kids as her own. That's exactly what I was hoping to find in someone to watch my children. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
I don't see a problem. I love DW, DS and DD. I love the kids in DS's karate class that I'm helping out with. I love spring, rice pudding and big trucks. I don't think it's weird that someone "loves" your DC. It's not the same love that a mother has for their child, but caregivers can and should love the kids they are taking care of.

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
The head teacher in the infant room has been with Lucas since day one and still has him in the mornings. She hugs him, kisses his cheek and does tell him that she loves him.
The first time I heard and saw that I have to admit that it was weird but I've come to appreciate that she loves him. We love and adore him and I think it makes it easier on him to be there with the affectionate and warm atmosphere.

I've never heard them say "I love you", but I have seen them kiss him and call him sweetheart, etc. I was comforted by it.

Mine say it too, and DD gives them a hug and kiss when she leaves. I think it's sweet, it shows me that she is being cared for by people who love her.

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
Yes. Even when he was just a few months his daycare teachers were "fighting" over holding him.
At first I felt "jealous" but then realized that the more they "love" him and he "loves" them, the best it is. He is at daycare for long hours. I need him to be happy.

I don't know if they tell him that or not - I have heard other teachers saying it in his daycare - I have no problem with him hearing that when he is in daycare all day!!!

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
funny, DH usually picks up DS from daycare but since he's sick I did it today. And one of his teachers said "i love you" as we were leaving. I had never heard them say it either and had already read your post earlier so I giggled a little.
I like that they say it to him. I grew up in a house where we never said I love you and when I was an adult I realized I didn't like that. I don't want to feel uncomfortable telling people that I love them....i mean, not like I throw the phrase around too much. But I want matthew to know that people love him and that he can tell people that he loves them, you know?

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
I wouldn't mind - IF they said it to ALL the kids. If my son was singled out it might strike me as strange. I mean - I'd be gratified - but I would also find it peculiar.

Re: Daycare moms...caregivers saying "I love you"
Up until two years ago, I taught three year olds. We were always telling the kids that we loved them, and I did love them. I still think about certain kids, wondering how they are doing, what they look like now, etc. When working with young children, its very hard not to get attached to them. DD is not in daycare, but will be starting nursery school in September. Not only would I be fine with her teachers telling her they loved her, I would feel so great about it, knowing first hand that great bond that nursery and day care teachers have with their little ones.

OMG, ditto a hundred times! How lucky for you that you have people who care about him so much! Your DH probably finds it weird because men are not as openly affectionate as women and as caretakers, we form a bond with children that is really close. My kids at school tell me they love me all the time and hug me. I tell them right back that I love them. I think it's wonderful and you are very lucky.
